چکیده

The technique of staining antigens with a fluorescent dye coupled to specific antibody was first applied to the identification of N. gonorrhoeae by Deacon, Peacock, Freeman, and Harris (1959). From this and further studies they concluded that the fluorescent antibody (F.A.) technique was superior to conventional cultural diagnostic methods and afforded a considerable saving in labour and materials and in the time required for making a bacteriological diagnosis (Deacon, Peacock, Freeman, Harris, and Bunch, 1960). Similar studies on material from patients have been reported by Harris, Deacon, Tiedemann, and Peacock (1961), Lind (1962), Brown, Copeloff, and Peacock (1962), Moore, VanderStoep, Wende, and Knox (1963), and Danielsson (1963). The present study was undertaken to compare F.A. techniques with established methods for the diagnosis of gonorrhoea and to assess their applications to routine work.

Laboratory methods in genitourinary medicine. Methods of diagnosing gonorrhoea.

Gonorrhoea is normally diagnosed presumptively by the presence of intracellular Gram-negative cocci on a Gram stain and confirmed by culture of the causative organism, Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Alternative methods have been evaluated extensively for the detection of gonococci in clinical specimens including immunological techniques such as ELISA and immunofluorescence, DNA probes, genetic transfor...

P159: New Findings in The Diagnosis of Autoimmune Diseases of the Nervous System

The antibody of the nervous system is called antibodies that the body makes to the nervous system cells. These antibodies are also very diverse based on the complexity and diversity of the nervous system, and therefore their detection is also associated with particular challenges. Generally, autoimmune diseases are on the rise. The diagnostic techniques for autoimmune diseases are also in progr...

Calretinin Immunohistochemistery: An Aid in the Diagnosis of Hirschsprung’s Disease

Objective(s) Definite diagnosis of Hirschsprung’s disease (HD) is based on histopathological study, but there are limitations associated with standard histology and histochemistry in this regard. The aim of this study was to investigate calretinin immunostaining patterns in both ganglionic and aganglionic HD intestinal specimens and to compare them with control specimens. Materials and Method...

Diagnostic value of direct immunofluorescence of mucosal and skin biopsy specimens on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded biopsy specimens compared to specimens placed in normal saline as the gold standard method in the diagnosis of a group of autoimmun

Background and Aim: Direct immunofluorescence (DIF) is represented as a gold standard method in diagnosis of autoimmune blistering dermatoses. Normal saline, liquid nitrogen and michel’ solution are a widely accepted media for preserving biopsy samples of skin or mucosa before DIF examination. Occasionally clinicians put the biopsy specimen taken for DIF in formalin 10%, occasionally clinicians...
