BIOCHEMICAL MEDICINE AND METABOLIC BIOLOGY 47, 97-102 (1992) BRIEF COMMUNICATION A Potential Animal Model for Studying CF Heterozygote Advantage: Genetic Variation in Theophylline-Inducible Colonic Chloride Currents among Inbred Strains of Mice
ثبت نشده
چکیده
We have used Ussing chambers to measure chloride secretion by colonic segments (mucosa, muscularis, and serosa) from various inbred strains of mice. We found lower theophylline-induced Clsecretion in the DBA/U than in the C57BL/6J strain. Their F, showed significantly higher levels of Clsecretion than did the C57BL/6J parental strain while colonic segments from five recombinant inbred B x D lines ranged between the C57BL/6J and F, values. No major component of the variation appeared to be associated with alleles of the met oncogene region of chromosome 6 or the H-2 region of chromsome 17. o 1992

Biochemical and Physiological Changes during Thermal Stress in Bovines: A Review
The variation in climatic variables like temperature, humidity and radiations were recognized as the potential hazards in the growth and production of all domestic livestock species. Thermal environment is a major factor that can negatively affect both production and reproduction in dairy animals, especially in animals of high genetic merit. Among the stressors, heat stress has been of major co...
متن کاملCancer Prevention Research A Model of Gene-Environment Interaction Reveals Altered Mammary Gland Gene Expression and Increased Tumor Growth following Social Isolation
Clinical studies have revealed that social support improves the outcome of cancer patients, whereas epidemiologic studies suggest that social isolation increases the risk of death associated with several chronic diseases. However, the precise molecular consequences of an unfavorable social environment have not been defined. To do so, robust, reproducible preclinical models are needed to study t...
متن کاملGenetic Effects at Pleiotropic Loci Are Context-Dependent with Consequences for the Maintenance of Genetic Variation in Populations
Context-dependent genetic effects, including genotype-by-environment and genotype-by-sex interactions, are a potential mechanism by which genetic variation of complex traits is maintained in populations. Pleiotropic genetic effects are also thought to play an important role in evolution, reflecting functional and developmental relationships among traits. We examine context-dependent genetic eff...

Background and objectives: The serum glucose lowering, normalization animal body weight and antioxidative stress effects of Mespilus germanica L. leaf extract were investigated in normal and streptozotocin-induced Balb/C mices. Methods: The leaves of M. germanica were extracted using acetone/water (70:30) by percolation method and concentrated...
متن کاملThe Hepatic Role in Carcinogenesis and Its Early Detection—The Vinly Chloride Model , 12
The liver's role in vinyl chloride toxicity and carcinogenicity is providing a better understanding of the chemical carcinogenesis mechanism. A variety of both malignant and benign hepatic tumors has been demonstrated with prolonged exposure to vinyl chloride. The multi-system involvment of this carcinogen and toxin has provided a model for the study of chemical carcinogenesis common to both ma...
