Electric field in hard superconductors with arbitrary cross section and general critical current law

چکیده
The induced electric field E(x) during magnetic flux entry in superconductors with arbitrary cross section Ω and general critical current law, has been evaluated by integration along the vortex penetration paths. Nontrivial flux motion streamlines are obtained from a variational statement of the critical state, which takes the form of an optimization problem on the finite element dis-cretization of Ω. The generality of the theory allows to deal with physical conditions not considered before. In particular, it is shown that the boundary condition to be used for determining E is the knowledge of the locus E = 0 within the sample. This is emphasized for anisotropic materials in which the electric field is not parallel to the surface. Both numerical and analytical evaluations are presented for homogeneous materials with different geometries: convex and concave contours, samples with holes, variable curvature contours, and for anisotropic samples. In the isotropic case, discontinuities in the electric current paths are shown to be related to changing curvature of the sample's surface. Anisotropic samples display the same kind of discontinuities, even for constant surface curvature.

The magnetic moment, flux and current penetration, and creep in type-II superconductors of nonzero thickness in a perpendicular applied magnetic field are calculated. The presented method extends previous onedimensional theories of thin strips and disks to the more realistic case of arbitrary thickness, including as limits the perpendicular geometry ~thin long strips and circular disks in a per...
متن کاملA Variational Approach to the Macroscopic Electrodynamics of Anisotropic Hard Superconductors
Abstract. We consider the Bean’s critical state model for anisotropic superconductors. A variational problem solved by the quasi–static evolution of the internal magnetic field is obtained as the Γ-limit of functionals arising from the Maxwell’s equations combined with a power law for the dissipation. Moreover, the quasi–static approximation of the internal electric field is recovered, using a ...

As a first step to a better understanding of the voltage-current characteristics of fine filament multifi lamentary composite superconductors, the electric field and critical current along a single spiral-shaped fi lament were studied. When the spiral superconducting filament was carrying constant current and placed in a magnetic field, the local critical current and electric field vary due to ...

In this study, a set of self-consistent coupled-integral equations for the local magnetic flux and current distributions in a finite superconducting hollow cylinder under an axial magnetic field has been directly derived by using the Biot-Savart law within the framework of the critical-state model. The equations were first solved numerically in the three-dimensional space before obtaining the h...
