چکیده
The sporeforming, dissimilatory sulfate-reducing bacteria have been reclassified by L. L. Campbell and J. R. Postgate (Bacteriol. Rev. 29:359, 1965) and placed in a new genus: Desuljbtomaculum. The thermophilic sulfate-reducing bacterium, Desulfotomaculum nigrificans (Clostridium nigrificans) was designated as the type species. In a previous study of 30 strains of nonsporulating sulfate-reducing bacteria, it was shown that these organisms could be divided into three

Genome analyses of the carboxydotrophic sulfate-reducers Desulfotomaculum nigrificans and Desulfotomaculum carboxydivorans and reclassification of Desulfotomaculum caboxydivorans as a later synonym of Desulfotomaculum nigrificans
Desulfotomaculum nigrificans and D. carboxydivorans are moderately thermophilic members of the polyphyletic spore-forming genus Desulfotomaculum in the family Peptococcaceae. They are phylogenetically very closely related and belong to 'subgroup a' of the Desulfotomaculum cluster 1. D. nigrificans and D. carboxydivorans have a similar growth substrate spectrum; they can grow with glucose and fr...

متن کاملIsolation of a bisulfite reductase activity from Desulfotomaculum nigrificans and its identification as the carbon monoxide-binding pigment P582.
Crude preparations of Desulfotomaculum nigrificans were found to reduce bisulfite to trithionate, thiosulfate, and sulfide. The bisulfite reductase of this organism was partially purified and observed to reduce bisulfite to trithionate as the major product and with thiosulfate and sulfide as minor products. The enzyme exhibited spectral properties identical to the carbon monoxide-reacting pigme...
متن کاملRice husk filtrate as a nutrient medium for the growth of Desulfotomaculum nigrificans: characterisation and sulfate reduction studies.
The filtrate obtained by interacting a known amount of rice husk with deionised, Milli-Q water was assessed as a carbon source and nutrient medium for the growth of Desulfotomaculum nigrificans, a typical sulfate-reducing bacterium. The filtrate contained essential growth constituents such as magnesium, potassium, phosphorous apart from calcium, sodium, chloride and sulfate ions. Based on the 1...
متن کاملThiosulfate disproportionation by Desulfotomaculum thermobenzoicum.
Desulfotomaculum thermobenzoicum, but not Desulfotomaculum nigrificans, Desulfotomaculum ruminis, or Desulfosporosinus orientis, grew by disproportionation of thiosulfate, forming stoichiometric amounts of sulfate and sulfide; sulfite was not disproportionated. The addition of acetate enhanced growth and thiosulfate disproportionation by D. thermobenzoicum compared to those observed with thiosu...
