Non-Skeletal Biomineralization by Eukaryotes: Matters of Moment and Gravity

چکیده
Skeletal biomineralisation by microbial eukaryotes significantly affects the global biogeochemical cycles of carbon, silicon and calcium. Non-skeletal biomineralisation by eukaryotic cells, with precipitates retained within the cell interior, can duplicate some of the functions of skeletal minerals, e.g. increased cell density, but not the mechanical and antibiophage functions of extracellular biominerals. However, skeletal biomineralisation does not duplicate many of the functions of non-skeletal biominerals. These functions include magnetotaxis (magnetite), gravity sensing (intracellular barite, bassanite, celestite and gypsum), buffering and storage of elements in an osmotically inactive form (calcium as carbonate, oxalate

Transverse Vibration for Non-uniform Timoshenko Nano-beams
In this paper, Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity and Timoshenko beam theories are implemented to analyze the bending vibration for non-uniform nano-beams. The governing equations and the boundary conditions are derived using Hamilton’s principle. A Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (GDQM) is utilized for solving the governing equations of non-uniform Timoshenko nano-beam for pinned-pinned...
متن کاملEffects of the Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction on the Component Demand Modifier Factor of Concrete Gravity Beams based on ASCE 41-06 Standard
The aim of the present paper is to evaluate the influence of the Soil- Foundation- Structure Interaction (SFSI) effects on the component demand modifier factor of concrete gravity beams based on ASCE 41-06 standard. To this end, the beam on the nonlinear Winkler foundation approach is employed which is a simple and efficient method. At first, four sets of 3-, 6-, 10- and 15-storey concrete mome...
متن کاملThe influence of gravity on structure and function of animals.
Gravity is the only environmental parameter that has remained constant during the period of evolution of living matter on Earth. Thus, it must have been a major force in shaping living things. The influence of gravitational loading in evolution of the vertebrate skeleton is well recognized, and scale effects have been studied. This paper, however, considers in addition four pivotal events in...
متن کاملClamped-Free Non Homogeneous Magneto Electro Elastic Plate of Polygonal Cross-Sections with Hydrostatic Stress and Gravity
In this article, the influence of hydrostatic stress and gravity on a clamped- free non homogeneous magneto electro elastic plate of polygonal cross sections is studied using linear theory of elasticity. The equations of motion based on two-dimensional theory of elasticity are applied under the plane strain assumption of prestressed and gravitated magneto electro elastic plate of polygonal cros...

The genetic bases of skeletogenesis are expected to shed light on the origins of metazoan biomineralization. Here we review aspeets of genetic machineries of inyertebrate sk letogenesis, including regulutory genes involyed in hiomi"eralization as well, and with an enumerative reference to the genes encoding skeletal mahix proteins. The complete primary structure has been determilled for a total...
