Community-Acquired Necrotizing Pneumonia Caused by ST72-SCCmec Type IV-Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Korea

چکیده
Methcillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has emerged as an important cause of community-acquired infections, which has been recently designated as community-associated (CA) MRSA. Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-negative multilocus sequence type 72 (ST72)-staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) type IV has been reported as the predominat CA-MRSA strain in Korea and is commonly associated with skin and soft tissue infections in addition to healthcare-associated pneumonia. However, community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) for this strain has not yet been reported. We hereby report two cases of CAP caused by PVL-negative ST72-SCCmec type IV strain in patients who had no risk factors for MRSA acquisition. While CA-MRSA infections are not yet prevalent in Korea, our cases suggest that CA-MRSA should be considered in cases of severe CAP, especially for cases associated with necrotizing pneumonia.

Clinical predictors of community-genotype ST72-methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus-SCCmec type IV in patients with community-onset S. aureus infection.
OBJECTIVES Community-genotype methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) clones have emerged in the community worldwide and recently have been spreading into the hospitals. To identify predictors of sequence type 72-MRSA-SCCmec type IV (ST72-MRSA-IV) in patients with community-onset (CO) S. aureus infection, a case-control study was conducted among CO S. aureus infections, including hea...
متن کاملPost-influenza Pneumonia Caused by the USA300 Community-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Korea
Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-positive USA300 clone has been the most successful community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) clone spreading in North America. In contrast, PVL-negative ST72-CA-MRSA has been predominant in Korea, and there has been no report of infections by the USA300 strain except only one case report of perianal infection. Here, we describe ...
متن کاملEmergence of Community-Genotype Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Korean Hospitals: Clinical Characteristics of Nosocomial Infections by Community-Genotype Strain
BACKGROUND As community-genotype methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains spread into hospitals, the genotypes of the MRSA strains causing hospital-acquired (HA) infections have become more diverse. We describe clinical characteristics of nosocomial MRSA infections by a community-genotype of sequence type (ST) 72. MATERIALS AND METHODS A case-control study was designed among...
متن کاملIsolation of PVL/ACME-Positive, Community Acquired, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (USA300) from Iran
Introduction: Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is responsible for an increasing number of serious hospital- and community-acquired infections. USA300 is known to be the most common cause of community-acquired infections, but recently there have been some reports on hospital-acquired infections caused by this strain. Methods: Totally 171 isolates of S. aureus were collected fro...

BACKGROUND A new clone of community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA), sequence type (ST) 72-staphylococcal chromosomal cassette mec (SCCmec) type IV/IVA without the Panton-Valentine leucocidin (PVL) genes, has been the major clonal type in Korea since 2007. However, there have been no evaluations of the clinical features, risk factors and outcomes associated with C...
