Permanent set and stress softening constitutive equation applied to rubber like materials and soft tissues

چکیده
Many rubber like materials present a phenomenon known as Mullins effect. It is characterized by a difference of behavior between the first and second loadings and by a permanent set after a first loading. Moreover, this phenomenon induces anisotropy in an intially isotropic material. A new constitutive equation is proposed in this paper. It relies on the decomposition of the macromolecular network into two parts: chains related together and chains related to fillers. The first part is modeled by a simple hyperelastic constitutive equation whereas the second one is described by an evolution function introduced in the hyperelastic strain energy. It contributes to describe both the anisotropic stress softening and the permanent set. The model is finally extended to soft tissues mechanical behavior that present also stress softening but with an initially anisotropic behavior. The two models are successfully fitted and compared to experimental data.

متن کاملNumerical Simulation of the Effect of Damaged Induced Softening on the Inflation of a Circular Rubber Membrane
Rubbery materials can undergo deformation induced microstructural changes leading to softening of response and permanent set. In this work, these materials are modeled by a constitutive equation that incorporates the following micromechanism : when the deformation becomes large enough, network junctions break during further increments of deformation and then heal. New networks are formed by thi...
متن کاملQuasi-Linear Soft Tissue Models Revisited
Di erent mechanical properties of biological tissues depend on mineral content. Thus, roughly, it can be distinguished two classes of biological tissues. Bones and tooth content mineral, they conform the group known as hard tissues. Whereas, skin, muscle, blood vessel and lungs conform the second group called of soft tissues. They do not content mineral, so they are much deformable than hard ti...

The main contribution of the present work is to investigate the capability of exponential-type constitutive equationto model the warm deformation flow curves of a eutectoid steel in the temperature range of 620-770 °C andat the strain rates in the range of 0.01-10 s-1 conducted on a Gleeble-1500 thermomechanical simulator. Warmdeformation in this temperature range f...
متن کاملConstitutive model for stretch-induced softening of the stress–stretch behavior of elastomeric materials
Elastomeric materials experience stretch-induced softening as evidenced by a pre-stretched material exhibiting a signi1cantly more compliant response than that of the virgin material. In this paper, we propose a fully three-dimensional constitutive model for the observed softening of the stress–strain behavior. The model adopts the Mullins and Tobin concept of an evolution in the underlying har...
