چکیده
Object-oriented paradigm is an alternative to the conventional “pixel-to-pixel” image classifiers, since it take into account the topologic and geometric information relating to the objects. The area being studied by this paper corresponds to the part of the Paraíba do Sul River basin located within São Paulo state, on a regional scale, and to the municipality of Tremembé, on a local scale. This region is notable for the large quantities of sand it produces for the construction industry mostly for the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. This economic activity has been having a negative impact on the environment in the form of artificial lakes. This study is committed to exploring the object-based image analisys in the mapping of the use and occupancy of the land, with an emphasis on the monitoring of the lakes arising from the sand mining process, using Landsat 5-TM images of the entire basin, corresponding to UGRHI number 2 Paraíba do Sul River Basin taken over three different decades (1986, 1996 and 2007) and Ikonos-2 images from the municipality of Tremembé. The DEFINIENS (v. 7.5), ENVI (v. 4.6.1) and ArcGis (v. 9.3.1) software programs were used in the pre-processing, segmentation, classification, evaluation of classification, data analysis and layout preparation procedures.

Comparative study of degradation of PP modified with organic pro-degradant subjected to natural and artificial ageing
In abiotic degradation the action of light radiation is one of the most important parameters, because polymers undergo degradation due to the action of light (natural or artificial). The aim of this study was to investigate the degradation rate for samples of polypropylene (PP) modified with an organic pro-degradant submitted to ageing in a natural environment and to accelerated ageing test. Th...
متن کاملSanitary Wastewater Supplemented with Glycerol to Obtain Lipid-Rich Microalgal Biomass
Introduction: Mixotrophic microalgae systems have great potential for bioenergy production and wastewater treatment. Anaerobic-treated wastewater supplemented with carbon can improve biomass yield and quality, as it presents low carbon content. Alternative carbon sources in microalgae cultivation, such as glycerol, are essential for minimizing the economic and environmental impacts caused by bi...
متن کاملDemarcation of Groundwater Prospective Zones in Humid Tropical River Basin: A Geospatial Approach
Groundwater, being a vital resource, needs to be developed with proper understanding about its occurrence in time and space. Unscientific sand mining is a dominant environmental issue in this humid tropical river basin namely Bharathapuzha river basin geographically on central part of Kerala state, southwest part of India. The sandy layers along the river course declines its water holding capac...
متن کاملNitrate and sodium contents on lettuce and drained water as function of fertilizing and irrigation water quality in Brazil
Contamination of plants and waters with nitrate and sodium is an important environmental problem that can affects humans. An experiment was carried out aiming to evaluate the effect of fertilization and irrigation water quality on NO3- and Na+ contents of drained water and lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) plants in Rio Claro, São Paulo State, Brazil. Treatments were distributed in a factorial arrang...
متن کاملVisceral leishmaniasis in Southern Rio de Janeiro State and the risk of propagation to São Paulo State, Brazil.
Visceral leishmaniasis (VL), also known as American VL, or neotropical kala-azar, is an epidemic zooanthroponosis endemic to Brazil. It affects both rural and peri-urban areas, and can also spread into urban areas. The causative agent is Leishmania infantum chagasi, and the principal vector is the sand fly species Lutzomyia longipalpis. Domestic dogs are the main host for the insect vector, and...
