چکیده

2014 The model of independent graphite subsystems is extended to describe the electronic states in stages 3 and 4 of GAC. The electrostatic effects related to the nonequivalence of the internal and external graphite layers are proved to induce a non uniform charge distribution in the system, and also to modify drastically the band structure. Interband optical transitions are analysed within this model. With a charge transfer coefficient comparable to the value obtained for lowest stages of GAC, the expected energies of the intervalence transitions are close to the energies of the reflectivity structures observed experimentally. The effect of staging (n≤ 3) on the two-dimensional (2D) Fermi surface of PdAl 2 Cl 8 acceptor-type graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) has been investigated by the Shubnikov-de Haas effect. For the stage 1 and stage 2 compounds, one and two fundamental frequencies are observed, respectively. The measured angular variation of the fundamental frequencies confirms the 2D nature of the stage 1...

First principles studies on band structures and density of states of graphite surface oxides

Graphite oxide constitutes carbon network with oxygen atoms both on hexagonal arrangement and the edge sites. Structural and electronic properties for graphite-oxygen complexes have been explored using first-principles total-energy calculations within the local density approximation (LDA). Band structures and density of states for the propose carbon 3D models are reported. A finite energy gap and...

Theory of magnetic susceptibility in acceptor and donor graphite intercalation compounds

2014 The tight binding calculation of the orbital magnetic susceptibility in Graphite Intercalation Compounds is reexamined to account for the different behaviour of Donor and Acceptor Compounds. The two dimensional tight binding model for 03C0 electrons treating symmetrically valence and conduction bands cannot explain experimental data. The inclusion of the second neighbour in-plane interacti...
