Self-broadening of water vapor transitions via the complex Robert–Bonamy theory

چکیده
Calculations of self-broadened half-widths and self-induced pressure shifts are made using the complex Robert–Bonamy formalism. The results of calculations using different approximations of the intermolecular potential indicate that this is a strong collision system. The effects of the imaginary components on the half-widths are studied. The temperature, vibrational, and rotational state dependence of the half-width are investigated. Results are compared with measurements from the database of self-broadening of water vapor [Gamache RR, Hartmann J-M. An intercomparison of measured pressure-broadening and pressure-shifting parameters of water vapor. Can J Chem 2004; 82: 1013–27]. r 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Self-broadened half-widths and self-induced line shifts for water vapor transitions in the 3.2-17.76 μm spectral region via complex Robert-Bonamy theory
Water vapor in the Earth's atmosphere is being studied in the 3.2−17.76 μm spectral region by the atmospheric infrared sounder (AIRS) on Aqua, the troposphere emission spectrometer (TES) and the high-resolution dynamics limb sounder (HIRDLS) on Aura, both part of the NASA EOS mission. However, the lack of sufficient data on spectral parameters will hamper the prospect of accurate retrievals of ...
متن کاملLineshape parameters for water vapor in the 3.2–17.76 lm region for atmospheric applications
Several NASA EOS instruments, the atmospheric infrared sounder (AIRS) on Aqua, and the tropospheric emission spectrometer (TES) and the high-resolution dynamics limb sounder (HIRDLS) on AURA, will be measuring water vapor in the Earth s atmosphere in the 3.2–17.76 lm spectral region. In order to do retrievals of temperature and concentration profiles, the spectral parameters for many thousands ...
متن کاملHalf-widths and Line Shifts of Water Vapor for Atmospheric Applications: Measurement and Theory Short Title: Half-widths and Line Shifts of H O
Pressure-broadened half-widths are the principal source of error in the retrieval of concentration profiles for the Earth’s atmosphere. The importance of the pressure-induced line shift is now becoming understood. In this work the current state of knowledge of the line shape parameters for water vapor transitions is discussed with respect to the experimental record and the theory. The measureme...

Pressure-broadened half-widths of 2 transitions are determined using the complex Robert–Bonamy formal9 ism for four isotopomers of water vapor: H18 2 O; H 17 2 O; HD O, and D16 2 O. The calculations are made with nitrogen and oxygen as the perturbing gases. A survey of the literature revealed N2-broadened measurements 11 of 365, 61, 990, and 545 2 transitions of the H18 2 O; H 17 2 O; HD O, and...
متن کاملHalf-widths, their temperature dependence, and line shifts for the HDO–CO2 collision system for applications to CO2-rich planetary atmospheres
Measurements of water vapor in the atmospheres of Venus or Mars by spectroscopic techniques in the infrared range are being made routinely by instruments onboard the Venus Express and the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The interpretation of these measurements in the 2250–4450 cm 1 region is being complicated by the presence of HDO lines absorbing radiation in this region. These spectra cannot be ...
