چکیده

The use of improved technology has fostered increasing interest in hypofractionated radiation therapy for prostate cancer. There also is convincing evidence that an unusual aspect of prostate cancer radiobiology allow a different approach to dose escalation that is radiobiological in nature. The aim of this paper is to explain the rationale behind hypo fractionated high -dose intensity -modulated radiotherapy in patients with localized prostate cancer.

Early toxicity of moderate hypofractionated volumetric modulated Arc radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer

Background: Based on the radiation biology model of prostate cancer, hypofractionated radiotherapy can improve the treatment outcomes without increasing toxicity. Although hypofractionated radiotherapy is implemented over a short period of time, it is more convenient and cheaper compared with conventional fractionated treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the early toxicity of mod...

3-Dimensional conformal radiotherapy versus intensity modulated radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer: Dosimetric and radiobiologic analysis

Background: To analyze the dosimetric and radio biologic advantages between intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and 3 dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) and selection of optimal photon energy for IMRT treatments. Material and methods: 24 patients with localized prostate carcinoma were planned for 3DCRT and IMRT techniques. Radiation dose of 54 Gy with 2 Gy/fraction, was planned to ...

Prostate-specific antigen kinetics after hypofractionated stereotactic body radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer

Background: stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) has emerged as an effective treatment for localized prostate cancer. However, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics after SBRT has not been well characterized. The objective of the current study is to analyze the rate of PSA decline and PSA nadir following hypofractonated SBRT in localized prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: From 2008...

Dose-Escalated Hypofractionated Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy in High-Risk Carcinoma of the Prostate: Outcome and Late Toxicity

Background. The benefit of dose-escalated hypofractionated radiotherapy using intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in prostate cancer is not established. We report 5-year outcome and long-term toxicity data within a phase II clinical trial. Materials and Methods. 60 men with predominantly high-risk prostate cancer were treated. All patients received neoadjuvant hormone therapy, completing up...

Image guided intensity modulated hypofractionated radiotherapy in high-risk prostate cancer patients treated four or five times per week: analysis of toxicity and preliminary results

BACKGROUND To evaluate efficacy and toxicity of hypofractionated intensity-modulated simultaneous integrated boost (IMRT-SIB) and image-guided (IGRT) radiotherapy in the treatment of high-risk prostate cancer patients. METHODS Eighty-two patients with high-risk prostate cancer were analysed. An IMRT treatment was planned delivering 68.75 Gy to the prostate, 55 Gy to the seminal vesicles and p...
