S18-04 Synchronization of oscillating cells during embryogenesis
نویسنده
چکیده
The ability to maintain a proportionate body plan in individuals of different sizes is essential for proper development. Despite wide interest, little is known about the mechanisms underlying scaling with size. I will discuss our efforts to reveal the molecular basis for scaling in different systems. A general ‘‘Expansion– Repression’’ feedback topology will be presented, which ensures scaling for a wide range of parameters and sizes through an effective implementation of an integral-feedback controller. Integralfeedback presents a key concept in engineering, and is likely to be instrumental also for maintaining biological homeostasis.

P-24: Opioid and Progesterone Signaling Is Obligatoryfor Early Human Embryogenesis
Background: The growth factors that drive the division and differentiation of stem cells during early human embryogenesis are unknown. The secretion of endorphins, progesterone (P(4)), human chorionic gonadotropin, 17beta-estradiol, and gonadotropin-releasing hormone by trophoblasts that lie adjacent to the embryoblast in the blastocyst suggests that these pregnancy-associated factors may direc...

Background SALL gene family represent a group of evolutionary conserved zinc finger transcription factors which are involved in normal development. It includes four members (SALL1 to SALL4). SALL4 has significant roles in the maintenance of pluripotency and self-renewal, efficient proliferation /stabilization and cell fate decision of embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Our aim in this study was to a...
متن کاملA framework for quantification and physical modeling of cell mixing applied to oscillator synchronization in vertebrate somitogenesis
In development and disease, cells move as they exchange signals. One example is found in vertebrate development, during which the timing of segment formation is set by a 'segmentation clock', in which oscillating gene expression is synchronized across a population of cells by Delta-Notch signaling. Delta-Notch signaling requires local cell-cell contact, but in the zebrafish embryonic tailbud, o...
متن کاملEvidence for ~e~b~ne-sedated Control of Differe~~tion during Embry~enesis of Vol Vox Carteri
In the preceding paper [l] a model was proposed which offers an explanation to many aspects of embryogenesis in volvox. In particular, the model explains pattern formation during embryogenesis, i.e., it correctly predicts the very regular positioning of the reproductive cells (gonidia) within the Volvox spheroids. The assumption was made that membrane proteins mediating cell-cell contacts are i...
