چکیده

The broad goals of this project are to develop new techniques of human interaction with stereo displays, particularly autostereoscopic (AS) displays. Autostereoscopic displays produce a 3D visual sensation to one or more observers without the use of glasses, goggles, helmets, or headtracking. We are developing new techniques for interactive input and manipulation of threedimensional data using a motion tracking system combined with an autostereoscopic display. Users interact with the system by means of video cameras that track a light source or a user’s hand motions in space. Our principles are applicable to both single-user and multi-user AS displays ranging in size from laptops to large flat-panel systems [1].

Liquid Crystal Microlenses for Autostereoscopic Displays

Three-dimensional vision has acquired great importance in the audiovisual industry in the past ten years. Despite this, the first generation of autostereoscopic displays failed to generate enough consumer excitement. Some reasons are little 3D content and performance issues. For this reason, an exponential increase in three-dimensional vision research has occurred in the last few years. In this...

Quantitative Comparison of Interaction with Shutter Glasses and Autostereoscopic Displays

In this paper we describe experimental measurements and comparison of human interaction with three different types of stereo computer displays. We compare traditional shutter glasses-based viewing with three-dimensional (3D) autostereoscopic viewing on displays such as the Sharp LL-151-3D display and StereoGraphics SG 202 display. The method of interaction is a sphere-shaped “cyberprop” contain...

Multi–view Autostereoscopic 3d Display

Autostereoscopic displays provide 3D perception without the need for special glasses or other head gear. Three basic technologies exist to make such displays: spatial multiplex, multi-projector and time-sequential. These can be used to make two types of useful device: two-view, head-tracked displays; and multi-view displays. The former tend to be single-viewer systems while the latter can suppo...

Guest Editor's Introduction: The Ultimate Display--What Will It Be?

IN THIS ISSUE Autostereoscopic displays provide 3D perception without the need for special glasses or other head gear. These displays have become available for the consumer market during the past decade, and they are now used in several application domains, such as science, medicine, and entertainment. In “Autostereoscopic 3D Displays,” Neil A. Dodgson provides a general review of autostereosco...

Unified crosstalk measurement method for various distances on autostereoscopic multi-view displays

In this paper a procedure for crosstalk (CT) measurements on spatial-multiplexed multi-user autostereoscopic 3D displays with so-called viewing distance control (VDC) is presented. VDC makes use of a rendering method which allows shifting of the viewing distance for multiview displays by using a novel distribution of the content at sub-pixel level. Methods for CT measurements to date cannot be ...
