Evaluation of PMMA optical fibres as gamma dosimeters for nuclear applications

Fibre optic radiation monitors have promising applications in the nuclear industry. We investigate the possible use of PMMA plastic optical fibres as on-line dosimeters, based on the measurement of the attenuation induced by the ionising gamma radiation. A novel interrogation scheme is proposed for real-time dosimetry applications. This technique involves using spectral measurement techniques without regard for the absolute intensity.
