چکیده

Volume rendering is a technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. Volume rendering, though capable of performing very effective visualization, is very computationally intensive. Semi-boundary (SB) is a compact data structure used to encode extracted surface from volume data. In this paper, we describe an incremental algorithm to shorten rendering of SB nodes. We define two projection rules to guarantee proper projection order and, thus, eliminate the requirement for a Z-buffer. Using these two rules, we save data storage as well as rendering time. As a result, the proposed method can achieve interactive rendering performance for a large volume pelvis data set with a size of 512 ¥ 512 ¥ 245. Experimental results show that our achieved rendering rate is less dependent on viewing angles.

An efficient semi-implicit immersed boundary method for the Navier-Stokes equations

The Immersed Boundary method is one of the most useful computational methods in studying fluid structure interaction. On the other hand, the Immersed Boundary method is also known to require small time steps to maintain stability when solved with an explicit method. Many implicit or approximately implicit methods have been proposed in the literature to remove this severe time step stability con...

Feature extraction of hyperspectral images using boundary semi-labeled samples and hybrid criterion

Feature extraction is a very important preprocessing step for classification of hyperspectral images. The linear discriminant analysis (LDA) method fails to work in small sample size situations. Moreover, LDA has poor efficiency for non-Gaussian data. LDA is optimized by a global criterion. Thus, it is not sufficiently flexible to cope with the multi-modal distributed data. We propose a new fea...

A semi-Lagrangian scheme for mean curvature motion with nonlinear Neumann conditions

A numerical method for mean curvature motion in bounded domains with nonlinear Neumann boundary conditions is proposed and analyzed. It consists of a semi-Lagrangian scheme in the main part of the domain as proposed by Carlini, Falcone and Ferretti, combined with a finite difference scheme in small layers near the boundary to cope with the boundary condition. The consistency and monotonicity pr...

An Improved Technique for Full Spectral Rendering

In this paper we present an improved approach to full spectral rendering. The technique is optimized for quasi-Monte Carlo ray tracing, however the underlying physical theory can be applied to any global illumination scheme. We start with explanation of the necessity of full spectral rendering in any correct global illumination system. Then we present, step by step, a rendering scheme using ful...

Creating Walk-Through Images from a Video Sequence of a Dynamic Scene

Tour Into the Picture (TIP) proposed by Horry et al. [19] is a method for generating a sequence of walk-through images from a single reference image. By navigating a 3D scene model constructed from the image, TIP provides convincing 3D effects. This paper presents a comprehensive scheme for creating walk-through images from a video sequence by generalizing the idea of TIP. To address various pr...
