Time-Shifted Mating Periods in Two Closely Related Corixid Species
نویسنده
چکیده
Sound production, Seasonal isolation, Overwintering, Aquatic insects The water boatmen Corixa dentipes and C. punctata produce an acoustic mounting signal when beginning to copulate. Automated recording o f this signal over the entire life cycle of the animals reveals that the main mating period of C. punctata occurs in autumn and that o f C. dentipes, in the spring. In the case o f C. punctata, mounting signals were routinely recorded even during the winter, at water temperatures below 4 °C.

Different types of oestrous cycle in two closely related South American rodents (Cavia aperea and Galea musteloides) with different social and mating systems.
A comparative approach was used to investigate two closely related South American rodent species: the wild cavy (Cavia aperea) and the yellow-toothed cavy (Galea musteloides). These species of wild guinea-pig inhabit different habitats and show divergent social and mating systems. Cavia have a polygynous mating system, whereas in Galea promiscuous mating occurs. These observations correspond to...
متن کاملLice, Humans, and Microbes
Lice are small, wingless, minor ectoparasites of mammals and birds. More than 540 blood-sucking lice (Phthiraptera: Anoplura) have been described with each host having its own type of louse, suggesting the cospeciation of the lice species with their host. Among these, two lice species from two different genera infest humans: Pediculus humanus and Phthirus pubis (pubic “crab” l...
متن کاملExperimental assessment of mating opportunities in three shorebird species
Experimental assessment of mating opportunities in three shorebird species Mating opportunities may differ between closely related species, although the evidence for such variation is scant. Here we compare remating opportunities and courtship behaviour between three shorebird species: the Kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrinus), the Kittlitz's plover (C. pecuarius) and the white-fronted plove...

Life history changes in Trogoderma variabile and T. inclusum due to mating delay with implications for mating disruption as a management tactic
Controlling postharvest pest species is a costly process with insecticide resistance and species-specific control requiring multiple tactics. Mating disruption (MD) can be used to both decrease a female's access to males and delay timing of mating and decreases overall mating success in a population and population growth rate. Development of new commercially available MD products requires an un...
