Lectures on groups of symplectomorphisms
نویسنده
چکیده
These are notes for a lecture course given in Jussieu, Paris, July 2001. They discuss groups of symplectomorphisms of closed symplectic manifolds (M, ω) from various points of view. The first two lectures provide an overview of their algebraic, geometric and homotopy theoretic properties. Much of the recent progress in understanding the geometry and topology of these groups has come from studying the properties of fibrations with the manifold M as fiber and structural group equal either to the symplectic group or to its Hamiltonian subgroup Ham(M). The case when the base is S has proved particularly important. Lecture 3 describes the geometry of Hamiltonian fibrations over S, while Lecture 4 discusses their Gromov-Witten invariants via the Seidel representation. Finally in Lecture 5 we apply the ideas developed in the previous two lectures to demonstrate the existence of (short) paths in Ham(M, ω) that minimize the Hofer norm over all paths with the given endpoints.

متن کاملEffects of e-learning, lectures, and role playing on nursing
Background :Nursing education can maintain its dynamic quality when it moves toward innovation and modern methods of teaching and learning. Therefore, teachers are required to employ up to date methods in their teaching plans. This study evaluated the effects of e-learning, lectures, and role playing on nursing students’ learning, retention, and satisfaction. Methods : Sixty nursing student...
متن کاملTopology of Symplectomorphism Groups of S × S
In dimension 4, due to non-existence of adequate tools, very little is known about the topology of groups of diffeomorphisms. For example, it is unknown if the group of compactly supported diffeomorphisms of R is connected. The situation is much better if one wants to study groups of symplectomorphisms. This is due to the existence of powerful tools, going by the name of “pseudo-holomorphic cur...
متن کاملComparison the effect of education using pictographs and lectures on the lifestyle of the elderly with type 2 diabetes
Introduction: A significant part of the complications of type 2 diabetes can be reduced through proper education and lifestyle changes. The use of image-based educational materials is one of the ways to provide clear and understandable information to illiterate or low literate people. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare the effect of education using pictographs and lectures on the li...
متن کاملComparing medical student opinions regarding teaching based on lectures and problem-based learning in large groups
Introduction: Problem-based learning (PBL) is possibly one of the most innovative methods in medical education. In this training method, small groups of students work on a subject and learn the educational goals which include basic and clinical sciences. The aim of this study was comparing students’ and facilitators’ satisfaction in teaching pediatric course materials by two methods...
