Cascading toppling dynamics on scale-free networks

چکیده
We study avalanche dynamics on scale-free networks, following a power-law degree distribution, pd ðkÞ k ; through the Bak–Tang–Wiesenfeld sandpile model. The threshold height of a node i is set to be k 1 Z i with 0pZo1: We obtain the exponents for the avalanche size and the duration distributions analytically as a function of g and Z by using the branching process approach. The analytic solution is checked with numerical simulations on both artificial uncorrelated networks such as the static model and real-world networks. While numerical results of the avalanche size distribution for artificial uncorrelated scale-free networks are in reasonable agreement with the analytic prediction, those for real-world networks are not, which may be attributed to non-trivial degree–degree correlations in realworld networks. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. متن کاملAbility paradox of cascading model based on betweenness
Must Investing more resources to protect every node in a network improve the robustness of the whole network subject to target attacks? To answer this question, we investigate the cascading dynamics in some typical networks. In real networks, the load on a node is generally correlated with the betweenness. Considering the weight of a node, we give a new method to define the initial load on a no...
متن کاملSandpile avalanche dynamics on scale-free networks
Avalanche dynamics is an indispensable feature of complex systems. Here, we study the self-organized critical dynamics of avalanches on scale-free networks with degree exponent through the Bak–Tang–Wiesenfeld (BTW) sandpile model. The threshold height of a node i is set as k1− i with 06 ¡ 1, where ki is the degree of node i. Using the branching process approach, we obtain the avalanche size and...
متن کاملCascading Breakdown on Weighted Scale-Free Complex Networks
Cascading breakdown on complex networks has attracted much attention in recent years since people have realized the great danger brought by cascading failures in real life networks. In this study we propose a simple model describing cascading breakdown generated by the redistribution of packet loads by congested links on weighted scale-free networks. A collapsed link, which has lost its functio...
متن کاملCollective influence maximization in threshold models of information cascading with first-order transitions
In spreading dynamics in social networks, there exists an optimal set of influencers whose activation can induce a global-scale cascade of information. To find the optimal, or minimal, set of spreaders, a method based on collective influence theory has been proposed for spreading dynamics with a continuous phase transition that can be mapped to optimal percolation. However, when it comes to dif...
