Test and theory of electrodynamic bearings coupled to active magnetic dampers

چکیده
Electrodynamic bearings (EDBs) are passive magnetic bearings that exploit the interaction between eddy currents developed in a rotating conductor and a static magnetic field to generate forces. Similar to other types of magnetic suspensions, EDBs provide contactless support, thus avoiding problems with lubrication, friction and wear. Electrodynamic bearings have also drawbacks such as the difficulty in insuring a stable levitation in a wide speed range. The paper presents a solution where the EDBs are coupled with active magnetic dampers (AMDs) to guarantee a stable levitation. I. ELECTRODYNAMIC LEVITATION OF ROTORS

H∞ Robust Controller Design and Experimental Analysis of Active Magnetic Bearings with Flexible Rotor System
H∞ controller for active magnetic bearings (AMBs) with flexible rotor system was designed in this paper. The motion equations of AMBs and flexible rotor system are built based on finite element methods (FEM). Weighting function matrices of H∞ controller for AMBs are studied for both the sensitivity and the complementary sensitivity of H∞ control theory. The simulation shows that the H∞ control ...
متن کاملStudy of Permanent Magnet Bearings and their Stiffness
A typical passive magnetic bearing has been modeled and analyzed for its performance characteristics. The magnetic bearing studied in this work comprised of a Shaft, inner magnets sleeved over the shaft, and outer magnetic rings. A detailed analysis has been perform on the force exerted by a permanent magnet on the shaft nurture to restore the shaft to its equilibrium position when an eccentric...
متن کاملFlywheel Energy Storage System with Homopolar Electrodynamic Magnetic Bearing*
.Abstract – The goal of this research was to evaluate the potential of homopolar electrodynamic magnetic bearings for flywheel energy storage systems (FESSs). The primary target was a FESS for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, however, the design can also be easily adapted for Earth-based applications. The main advantages of Homopolar Electrodynamic Bearings compared to more conventional Active...
متن کاملAnalysis of Vibration Characteristics of PD Control Active Magnetic Bearing and Cracked Rotor System (RESEARCH NOTE)
Crack fault of rotor is one of the most prominent problems faced by magnetic bearing rotor system. In order to improve the safety performance of this kind of machinery, it is necessary to research the vibration characteristics of magnetic bearing cracked rotor system. In this paper, the stiffness model of the crack shaft element was established by the strain energy release rate (SERR) theory. T...
متن کاملDynamic Analysis of a Rotor Supported on Ball Bearings with Waviness and Centralizing Springs and Squeeze Film Dampers
Squeeze film dampers (SFDs) are often used in machines with high rotational speed to reduce non-periodic behavior by creating external damping. There are some structural parameters which are of great importance in designing these systems, such as oil film thickness and inner race mass of SFD. Moreover, there is a crucial parameter associated with manufacturing process, under the title of wavine...
