چکیده

We describe a method for obtaining skeletal muscle and subcutaneous adipose tissue in a single percutaneous needle biopsy procedure. Biopsies were performed in a double-blind randomized, sham-exercise controlled clinical trial of power training in 103 older adults with type 2 diabetes. In total 110 biopsies (73.3%) were performed in the first 50 participants at 3 time points. Muscle samples were obtained in 102/110 biopsies (92.7%); adipose samples were obtained in 72/110 biopsies (65.5%); both tissue types were obtained in 65/110 biopsies (59.1%). The average weight of muscle samples was 131±92 mg and the median weight of adipose samples was 51 mg (range 3 to 412 mg). No adverse effects of biopsies were reported other than mild transient pain or light-headedness. This is one of the first reports of both adipose and muscle tissue obtained during the same biopsy, and the first to describe in detail sampling technique, yield and safety.

Responses of Muscle Mitochondrial Function to Physical Activity: A Literature Review

Skeletal muscles play an active role in regulating the metabolic homeostasis through their ability for relating to adipose tissue and endocrine hormones. Contraction of the skeletal muscle leads to increased release of several myokines, such as irisin, which is able to interact with the adipose tissue. Physical activity promotes the irisin mechanism by augmenting the peroxisomes (PGC1-α) in the...

The Effect of Eight Weeks of High-Intensity Interval Training and Endurance On Blood Glucose and TORC1 Protein Content in Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue of Obese with Type 2 Diabetes Rats

Background: TORC1 protein is an important factor in regulating adipose tissue metabolism. Type 2 diabetes can lead to dysfunction and the development of obesity. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and endurance on blood glucose and TORC1 protein content in subcutaneous adipose tissue of obese with type ...

تاثیر 12 هفته تمرینات مقاومتی بر سطوح آپلین، امنتین-1 و مقاومت به انسولین در زنان مسن دارای اضافه وزن مبتلا به دیابت نوع 2

Background and Objective: Nowadays, it has been recognized that Apelin and Omentin as the hormones secreted by adipose tissue, can be effective in regulating metabolism. The purpose of the present study was to determine the impact of 12 weeks of resistance training exercises on the Apelin, Omentin-1 levels and insulin resistance in overweight elderly women suffering from type 2 diabetes. THE EFFECT OF EIGHT WEEKS OF HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING ON CREB AND CRTC2 PROTEINS LEVELS IN SUBCUTANEOUS ADIPOSE TISSUE OF OBESE RATS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES

Background: Obesity and type 2 diabetes can impair the function of cells, including CREB and CRTC2 proteins, which are important for regulating adipose tissue metabolism. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT) on CREB and CRTC2 proteins levels in subcutaneous adipose tissue of obese rats with type 2 dia...

Changes in Insulin Resistance and HbA1c Are Related to Exercise-Mediated Changes in Body Composition in Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes

OBJECTIVE To investigate changes in body composition after 12 months of high-intensity progressive resistance training (PRT) in relation to changes in insulin resistance (IR) or glucose homeostasis in older adults with type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS One-hundred three participants were randomized to receive either PRT or sham exercise 3 days per week for 12 months. Homeostasis mo...
