چکیده
The formal standard redox potentials of samarium (III)/(II) (EZmi+/ Smi+) and europium (III)/(II) (•£,£u3+/eu2+ ) *n molten alkali metal chlorides were measured potentiometrically against a reference chlorine electrode. The Gibbs energy changes and equilibrium constants for the reaction LnCl2(D + V2 Cl2(g) LnCl3(I) were calculated for the salt systems studied. The effect of the cationic composition of the melt-solvent on the above thermodynamic characteristics is also reported.

Redox Potentials of Samarium and Europium in Molten Lithium Chloride
The samarium (III)/(II) and europium (III)/(II) redox potentials in molten lithium chloride were measured using the direct potentiometric method in the temperature range from 923 to 1094 K. Glassy carbon was used as the indifferent working electrode, and the standard chlorine electrode as a reference. The total concentration of rare-earth chlorides dissolved in molten lithium chloride did not e...
متن کاملReaction-Mediator-Based Chlorination for the Recycling of Titanium Metal Scrap Utilizing Chloride Waste
In this study, a novel chlorination technique for metallic titanium (Ti) was devised in order to establish a recycling process that uses both Ti metal scrap and iron chloride (FeClx) waste, and its feasibility was demonstrated. Direct reaction between Ti and FeClx has drawbacks such as slow kinetics of Ti chlorination and high volatilization of FeClx. To overcome these, the authors proposed a c...
متن کاملInfluence of counterions on the conformation of conjugated polyelectrolytes: the case of poly(thiophen-3-ylacetic acid).
The addition of simple salt to a solution of conjugated polyelectrolyte can lead to substantial changes in its optical properties caused by the conformational change of the polymer chain. The effect of the addition of alkali metal and tetraalkylammonium chlorides to solutions of lithium salt of poly(thiophen-3-ylacetic acid) is investigated by NMR. The fractions of free alkali metal counterions...
متن کاملVolatilization Behavior of Heavy Metal Chlorides from
Molten fly ashes generated from melting treatment of municipal solid waste and automobile shredder residues are characterized as hazardous waste due to the high content of heavy metals such as Zn, Pb and Cu. In addition, the heavy metal resources could be depleted in the near future and thus, the research towards conservation of metal resources is required. In the present work, volatilization b...
متن کاملThermal Conductivity of Molten Alkali Halides and Their Mixtures
Thermal conductivity of molten alkali halides and their mixtures with common anions is measured as a function of temperature. Use is made of the most reliable method of coaxial cylinders made of platinum, with radiation heat transfer being taken into account. It is found to vary directly with temperature. Expressions for its temperature dependence are derived from the experimental observations....
