Experimental Investigation of Pongamia, Jatropha and Neem Methyl Esters as Biodiesel on C.I. Engine

چکیده
The methyl esters of vegetable oils, known as biodiesel are becoming increasingly popular because of their low environmental impact and potential as a green alternative fuel for diesel engine and they would not require significant modification of existing engine hardware. Methyl ester of Pongamia (PME), Jatropha (JME) and Neem (NME) are derived through transesterification process. Experimental investigations have been carried out to examine properties, performance and emissions of different blends (B10, B20, and B40) of PME, JME and NME in comparison to diesel. Results indicated that B20 have closer performance to diesel and B100 had lower brake thermal efficiency mainly due to its high viscosity compared to diesel. However, its diesel blends showed reasonable efficiencies, lower smoke, CO and HC. Pongamia methyl ester gives better performance compared to Jatropha and Neem methyl esters. © 2008 Jordan Journal of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. All rights reserved

Experimental Investigation of Pongamia and Neem Methyl Esters as Biodiesel on Compression Ignition Engine
Biodiesel is a fuel comprised of mono alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. Biodiesel is reliable, renewable, biodegradable and regarded as a clean alternative fuel to reduce exhaust emissions. Vegetable oils have become more attractive for the production of biodiesel in the recent past owing to its environmental benefits and the fact that it is made...

The technical analysis conducted in this study deals with the modelling of diesel engine exhaust emissions using artificial neural networks. Objective of this study is to understand the effectiveness of various biodiesel fuel properties and engine operating conditions on diesel engine combustion towards the formation of exhaust emissions. The experimental investigations have been carried out on...
متن کاملExperimental and theoretical evaluation of the performance parameters and emission characteristics of bio diesel using C.I engine for various injection pressure
Cost and limited reserves of conventional fossil fuels have intensified the search for alternative fuels for use in internal combustion engines. A possible alternative engine fuel is vegetable oil because it is a clean burning, renewable, non-toxic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly transportation fuel. It can be used in a neat form without any modification of the engine. Vegetable oil...

Diesel is a fossil fuel that is getting depleted at a fast rate. So an alternative fuel is necessary and a need of the hour. Neem oil, which is cultivated in India at large scales, has a high potential to become an alternative fuel to replace diesel fuel. Direct use of Neem oil cannot be done, as its viscosity is more than the diesel fuel, and hence affects the combustion characteristics. The N...

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used for the determination of compounds occurring during the production of biodiesel from karanja and jatropha oil. Methanol was used for fast monitoring of conversion of karanja and jatropha oil triacylglycerols to fatty acid methyl esters and for quantitation of residual triacylglycerols (TGs), in the final biodiesel product. The individual sa...
