چکیده

The b1icrowave Anisotropy Probe (MAP) launched successfully on June 30, 2001 and is presently in a Lissajous orbit about the Sun-Earth libration point L2. To avoid Earth shadows at L2, the Sun-EarthVehicle (SEV) angle of MAP has to be-greater than 0.5 deg for an extended mission of four years. An equation is derived for the SEV angle in terms of the phase angle, frequencies and amplitudes of the Lissajous. The SEV angle is shown to oscillate with a period of 90.4 days within an amplitude envelope of period 13.9 years. A range of phase angles that avoids shadows is identified. MAP'S present phase angle is within this range and will avoid shadows for approximately 5.8 years.

Effects of Some Parameters on Thermal Control of a LEO Satellite

Satellite thermal control ensures safe operating temperature ranges for satellite components throughout the mission life. Effects of altitude, spin, and position of satellite radiator(s) on the thermal control of a small Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite have been studied. Results show that change in satellite altitude, in the range considered here, does not produce critical thermal conditions. H...

Low-Thrust Optimal Orbit Raising with Plane Change

A new guidance scheme for the problem of Low-thrust transfer between inclined orbits is developed within the framework of optimal control theory. The objective of the guidance scheme is to provide the appropriate thrust steering program that will transfer the vehicle from an inclined low earth orbits to the high earth orbits. The presented guidance scheme is determined using Pontryagin’s princi...

Sun-earth L1 Region Halo-to-halo Orbit and Halo-to-lissajous Orbit Transfers

Practical techniques for designing transfer trajectories between Libration Point Orbits (LPOs) are presented. Motivation for development of these techniques was provided by a hardware contingency experienced by the Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), a joint mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) orbiting the L1 point of the Su...

Performance Evaluation of the High-altitude Launch Technique to Orbit Using Atmospheric Properties

The purpose of this paper is to perform the feasibility and performance evaluation of the High-altitude launch technique using high altitude atmospheric Properties to near earth orbits. The current propulsion transportation system from Earth to space has been deemed by many to be expensive, unreliable, and an unnecessarily dangerous means of travel to space. It is suggested in this paper to ana...

Multi-Observations Initial Orbit Determination based on Angle-Only Measurements

A new approach with the ability to use the multiple observations based on the least square approach has been proposed for initial orbit determination. This approach considers the Earth’s Oblateness by using the developed Lagrange coefficients. The efficiency of the proposed method has been tested in two scenarios. The first scenario is to use the simulated and the second one is to utilize the r...
