چکیده

Introduction The paramount goal for subjects with sensory-neural hearing loss is to make as precise a distinction as possible among the different sites in the sensory system where a casual lesion may lie. The usual tests of conventional audiometry· viz., pure tone sensitivity measures; tests of recruitment and abnormal tone decay; Bekesy audiometry; speech audiometry; stapedius reflex measurements -have been thoroughly studied (Anderson , Barr & Wedenberg, 1970; Liden & Korsan-Bengtsen, 1973; Jerger et al., 1974; Thomsen & Terkildsen, 1975; Clemis & Mastricola, 1976; Sheehy & Inzer, 1976; Johnson, 1977; Palva et al., 1978; Hayes, 1980; Hirsch & Anderson, 1980).

A 46-Year-Old Woman with Unilateral Hearing Loss: A Recent Diagnosis of a Birth Condition

Cochlear nerve (CN) aplasia refers to the absence of a visible CN on oblique sagittal magnetic resonance images of the lateral aspect of the inner auditory canal (IAC). Magnetic resonance (MR) is the preferred technique in patients with sensorineural hearing loss and/or vertigo; however, computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate the IAC or facial nerve canal. Three types of aplasia or hypopl...

Children With Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD)

In 1991, Arnold Starr and colleagues described an 11-year-old child with the paradoxic findings of absent auditory brainstem responses in the presence of normal cochlear microphonics (CMs) and otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). The child demonstrated severely impaired speech understanding despite a mild loss of hearing sensitivity. Further evaluation showed impaired temporal processing as exhibited ...

Evaluation of the Slope of Amplitude Growth Function Changes of the Electrically Evoked Action Potential in Three Months after Receiving the Device in Children with Cochlear Implant

Objective: In neural response telemetry, intracochlear electrodes stimulate the auditory nerve and record the neural responses. The electrical stimulation is sent to the auditory nerve by an electrode and the resulted response, called electrically evoked compound action potential, is recorded by an adjacent electrode. The most important clinical applications of this test are evaluation and moni...

Comparison of Auditory Perception in Cochlear Implanted Children with and without Additional Disabilities

Background: The number of children with cochlear implants who have other difficulties such as attention deficiency and cerebral palsy has increased dramatically. Despite the need for information on the results of cochlear implantation in this group, the available literature is extremely limited. We, therefore, sought to compare the levels of auditory perception in children with cochlear implant...
