چکیده

We propose new entropy admissibility conditions for multidimensional hyperbolic scalar conservation laws with discontinuous flux which generalize one-dimensional Karlsen-Risebro-Towers entropy conditions. These new conditions are designed, in particular, in order to characterize the limit of vanishing viscosity approximations. On the one hand, they comply quite naturally with a certain class of physical and numerical modeling assumptions; on the other hand, their mathematical assessment turns out to be intricate. The generalization we propose is not only with respect to the space dimension, but mainly in the sense that the “crossing condition” of [K.H. Karlsen, N.H. Risebro, J. Towers, Skr.K.Nor.Vid. Selsk. (2003)] is not mandatory for proving uniqueness with the new definition. We prove uniqueness of solutions and give tools to justify their existence via the vanishing viscosity method, for the multi-dimensional spatially inhomogeneous case with a finite number of Lipschitz regular hypersurfaces of discontinuity for the flux function.

Hyperbolic Conservation Laws with Discontinuous Fluxes and Hydrodynamic Limit for Particle Systems

We study the following class of scalar hyperbolic conservation laws with discontinuous fluxes: ∂tρ + ∂xF (x, ρ) = 0. (0.1) The main feature of such a conservation law is the discontinuity of the flux function in the space variable x. Kruzkov’s approach for the L1-contraction does not apply since it requires the Lipschitz continuity of the flux function; and entropy solutions even for the Rieman...

A BGK approximation to scalar conservation laws with discontinuous flux

We study the BGK approximation to first-order scalar conservation laws with a flux which is discontinuous in the space variable. We show that the Cauchy Problem for the BGK approximation is well-posed and that, as the relaxation parameter tends to 0, it converges to the (entropy) solution of the limit problem.

Well-posedness for Multidimensional Scalar Conservation Laws with Discontinuous Flux

We obtain a well-posedness result of an entropy solution to a multidimensional scalar conservation law with discontinuous (quasi-homogeneous) flux satisfying crossing conditions, but with no genuine nonlinearity assumptions. The proof is based on the kinetic formulation of the equation under consideration and it does not involve any transformation of the original equation or existence of strong...

Entropy stable high order discontinuous Galerkin methods with suitable quadrature rules for hyperbolic conservation laws

It is well known that semi-discrete high order discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods satisfy cell entropy inequalities for the square entropy for both scalar conservation laws and symmetric hyperbolic systems, in any space dimension and for any triangulations [39, 36]. However, this property holds only for the square entropy and the integrations in the DG methods must be exact. It is significantl...

New Entropy Conditions for the Scalar Conservation Law with Discontinuous Flux

We propose new Kruzhkov type entropy conditions for one dimensional scalar conservation law with a discontinuous flux in rather general form (no convexity or genuine linearity is needed). We prove existence and uniqueness of the entropy admissible weak solution to the corresponding Cauchy problem merely under the assumption that initial data belong to the BVclass. Such initial data enable us to...
