چکیده

A crucial ingredient of any hyperthermia procedure is the accurate measurement of achieved temperature. In this paper, we present some accuracy and resolution suggestions and address the problem of temperature measurements when elec tromagnetic energy is used as the mode of heating. In such cases, conventional metallic thermometers can cause severe errors due to reradiated fields, high internal heating, and elec tronic interference. To avoid these problems, several groups have developed either high-resistance lead thermometers or optical-fiber probes using a variety of sensors, including bire fringent and semiconductor crystals. A new noninvasive ap proach uses ultrasound-computed tomography and relies upon the change in the speed of sound versus temperature to achieve maps of internal tissue temperature.

Experimental evaluation of thermal stability of PS- MWCNT nanocomposite as a real-time dosimeter

Introduction: Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are ideal reinforcing fillers for a polymer matrix, because of their nanometer size, high aspect ratio and, more importantly, their excellent mechanical strength, and electrical and thermal conductivity. The CNTs are categorized into two groups: SWCNT and MWCNT. MWCNTs would have diameters ranging from 2 to 100 nm and lengths of up to tens ...

Influence of thermal treatments on the response of sand radiation detectors for high-dose dosimetry.

The dosimetric properties of sand from Brazilian beaches have shown to be useful for high-dose dosimetry. The thermoluminescent (TL) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) techniques were utilised, and the sand samples were recently studied in relation to their main dosimetric properties. The EPR signal at g = 1.999 grows significantly in function of the absorbed dose, and the TL peaks appea...

Solid water phantom heat conduction: Heating and cooling rates

Solid water is often the phantom material of choice for dosimetry procedures in radiotherapy high-energy X-ray and electron beam radiation calibration and quality assurance. This note investigates variation in heat conduction that can occur for a common commercially available solid water stack phantom when a temperature differential occurs between the phantom and ambient temperature. These vari...

Effects of temperature variation on MOSFET dosimetry.

This note investigates temperature effects on dosimetry using a metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) for radiotherapy x-ray treatment. This was performed by analysing the dose response and threshold voltage outputs for MOSFET dosimeters as a function of ambient temperature. Results have shown that the clinical semiconductor dosimetry system (CSDS) MOSFET provides stable do...

Thermal therapy, Part IV: electromagnetic and thermal dosimetry.

In this article some of the important techniques in electromagnetic (EM) and thermal dosimetry are reviewed. Three major areas are discussed: modeling power deposition and estimation of EM energy absorbed by tissues exposed to EM radiation, electrical-thermal modeling for thermal therapy with various models of heat transfer in living tissues, and thermal dosimetry using invasive and noninvasive...
