A New Adaptive High Speed Distance Protection Scheme for Power Transmission Lines

چکیده
This paper describes a new, high-speed protection for EHV transmission lines. The presented scheme also performs well on series compensated lines. The High speed distance protection (ZMFPDIS) function is a six zone full scheme protection with three fault loops for phase-to-phase faults and three fault loops for phase-to-earth faults for each of the independent zones, which makes the function suitable in applications with single-phase auto-reclosing. The zones can operate independently of each other in directional (forward or reverse) or non-directional mode. A new built-in adaptive load compensation algorithm prevents overreaching of the distance zones in the load exporting end during phase-to-earth faults on heavily loaded power lines. It also reduces under-reach in the importing end. The ZMFPDIS function-block itself incorporates a phase-selection element and a directional element, where these elements are represented with separate function-blocks. Implementation of the new distance protection with fast tripping algorithms has been made in a modular line terminal platform. Comprehensive test results on various test systems show the benefits of the scheme. The results with a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) are presented in this paper. The scheme is now in operation under trade name REL670 2.0.

متن کاملZone-3 Impadance Reach Setting of Distance Relays by Including In-feed Current Effects in an Adaptive Scheme
The undesired operation of zone 3 may be one of the most conspicuous protective relay features due to the incorrect zone 3 relay operations which have been conducive to the severity of blackouts. Therefore, determining the accurate zone 3 setting of the distance relay is deemed to be necessary. This paper focuses on the development of a new technique for calculating zone-3 setting of distance r...

In this paper, a novel method is proposed to monitor the power system voltage stability using Support Vector Machine (SVM) by implementing real-time data received from the Wide Area Measurement System (WAMS). In this study, the effects of the protection schemes on the voltage magnitude of the buses are considered while they have not been investigated in previous researches. Considering overcurr...

متن کاملAn adaptive supervised wide-area backup protection scheme for transmission lines protection
Maloperation of conventional relays is becoming prevalent due to ever increase in complexity of conventional power grids. They are dominant during power system contingencies like power swing, load encroachment, voltage instability, unbalanced loading, etc. In these situations, adaptive supervised wide-area backup protection (ASWABP) plays a major role in enhancing the power system reliability. ...
