چکیده

We argue that both K + and K − must get lighter in dense medium at some density ρ > ρ 0 due to the decoupling of the vector mesons. This modifies significantly the strangeness equilibration as well as kaon condensation scenarios hitherto put forward in the literature. We note that the claimed equilibration density at GSI energies, ∼ ρ 0 /4 – which is much too low – results from a baryon chemical potential µ B which is substantially less than m N. It is shown that the " equilibration density " for positive strangeness can be increased by a factor of ∼ 8, to 2ρ 0. One of the consequences of this scenario is that kaon condensation in compact stars could take place before chiral restoration since the sum of bare quark masses in the kaon should lie below µ e. Another consequence of the decoupling vector interactions is that the quasi-particle picture involving (quasi)quarks, presumably ineffective at low densities, becomes more appropriate at higher densities as chiral restoration is approached.

Strangeness Equilibration at Gsi Energies

We develop the notion of " broad-band equilibration " in heavy-ion processes involving dense medium. Given density-dependent K −-masses we show that the equilibration at GSI energies claimed to hold in previous treatments down to ∼ ρ 0 /4, can be replaced by a broad-band equilibration in which the K −-meson and hyperons are produced in an essentially constant ratio independent of density. There...

Strangeness Production in Chemically Non-Equilibrated Parton Plasma

Strangeness production was investigated during the equilibration of a gluon dominated parton plasma produced at RHIC and LHC energies. The time evolution of parton densities are followed by a set of rate equations in a 1-dimensional expanding system. The strangeness production will depend on the initial chemical equilibration level and in our case the parton densities will remain far from the f...

As shown in some talks [1] of this conference, statistical descriptions work very successfully for multihadron final states in nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-nucleus, and nucleus-nucleus collisions. In this approach the chemical equilibrium particle ratios are functions of temperature T and baryon chemical potential μB only . Recently GSI measured Au-Au and Ni-Ni collisions at 0.8 ∼ 2.0 GeV. Some mea...

Baryon Stopping and Strangeness Production in Ultra-relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions *

The stopping behaviour of baryons in massive heavy ion collisions ( √ s ≫ 10AGeV) is investigated within different microscopic models. At SPS-energies the predictions range from full stopping to virtually total transparency. Experimental data are indicating strong stopping. The initial baryo-chemical potentials and temperatures at collider energies and their impact on the formation probability ...
