چکیده
Objective. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) measurements of tissue oxygen saturation (StO2) are useful for the assessment of skeletal muscle perfusion and function during exercise, however, they are influenced by overlying skin and adipose tissue. This study explored the extent and nature of the influence of adipose tissue thickness (ATT) on StO2. Approach. NIR spatially resolved spectroscopy (SRS) derived oxygenation was measured on vastus lateralis in 56 patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) and 20 healthy control (HC) subjects during rest and moderate intensity exercise with simultaneous assessment of oxygen uptake kinetics (τV̇O onset 2 ). In vitro measurements were performed on a flow cell with a blood mixture with full oxygen saturation (100%), which was gradually decreased to 0% by adding sodium metabisulfite. Experiments were repeated with 2 mm increments of porcine fat layer between the NIRS device and flow cell up to 14 mm. Main results. Leukocytes influence peripheral tissue oxygenation and perfusion in neonates
Background. Leukocyte counts may influence peripheral (micro) circulation due to changes in rheology. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible association between leukocyte counts and peripheral tissue oxygenation/perfusion measured with near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in term and preterm neonates. Methods. In this observational study we included term and preterm neonates within th...
متن کاملPeripheral Muscle Near-Infrared Spectroscopy in Neonates: Ready for Clinical Use? A Systematic Qualitative Review of the Literature.
BACKGROUND Peripheral muscle near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) measurements are of increasing interest especially in the care of critically ill patients. OBJECTIVE The aim was to perform a systematic qualitative review on peripheral muscle NIRS measurements in the clinical care of term and preterm neonates. METHODS A systematic search of PubMed and Ovid Embase was performed using the follow...
متن کاملForearm and calf tissue oxygenation in term neonates measured with near-infrared spectroscopy.
Peripheral tissue oxygenation has been studied with near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) on either the forearm or calf with questionable comparability. The aim was to compare forearm and calf tissue oxygenation in healthy term neonates measured with NIRS. Fractional oxygen extraction, tissue oxygenation index, and mixed venous oxygenation were similar in both extremities, whereas oxygen delivery a...
متن کاملCerebral Tissue Oxygenation during Immediate Neonatal Transition and Resuscitation
This article provides a review of cerebral tissue oxygenation during immediate transition after birth in human neonates. Recommended routine monitoring, especially if resuscitation is needed, during this period includes arterial oxygen saturation and heart rate measured by pulse oximetry and electrocardiogram. However, there is increasing interest to monitor in addition with near-infrared spect...
متن کاملCanonical Correlation Analysis in the Study of Cerebral and Peripheral Haemodynamics Interrelations with Systemic Variables in Neonates Supported on ECMO
Neonates supported on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) are at high risk of brain injury due to haemodynamic instability. In order to monitor cerebral and peripheral (muscle) haemodynamic and oxygenation changes in this population we used a dual-channel near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) system. In addition, to assess interrelations between NIRS and systemic variables, collected simulta...
