Robust H∞ control with multiple constraints for the track-following system of an optical disk drive

چکیده
In this paper, we design a tracking controller which satisfies transient response specifications and maintains tracking error within a tolerable limit for the uncertain track-following system of an optical disk drive. To this end, a robust H1 control problem with regional stability constraints and sinusoidal disturbance rejection is considered. The internal model principle is used for rejecting the sinusoidal disturbance caused by eccentric rotation of the disk. We show that a condition satisfying the regional stability constraints can be expressed in terms of a linear matrix inequality (LMI) using the Lyapunov theory and S-procedure. Finally, a tracking controller is obtained by solving an LMI optimization problem involving two LMI’s. The proposed controller design method is evaluated through an experiment.

Robust Control Synthesis Techniques for Multirate and Multi-sensing Track-following Servo Systems in HDDs
This paper proposes controller design methods, specially for track-following control of the magnetic read/write head in a hard disk drive (HDD). The servo system to be considered is a general dual-stage multi-sensing system, which encompasses most of the track-following configurations encountered in the HDD industry, including the traditional single-stage system. For the general system, a robus...

متن کاملRepetitive control for the track-following servo system of an optical disk drive
Disturbances acting on the track-following servo system of an optical disk drive inherently contain significant periodic components that cause tracking errors of a periodic nature. Such disturbances can be effectively rejected by employing a repetitive controller, which must be implemented carefully in consideration of system stability. Plant uncertainty makes it difficult to design a repetitiv...
متن کاملTrack-following control using a disturbance observer with asymptotic disturbance rejection in high-speed optical disk drives
To obtain a good tracking performance in an optical disk drive servo system, it is essential to attenuate periodic disturbances caused by eccentric rotation of the disk. As an effective control scheme for enhancing disturbance attenuation performance, disturbance observers (DOBs) have been successfully applied to the track-following servo system of optical disk drives. In disk drive systems, th...
متن کاملOptimal H∞ Control For Hard Disk Drives With An Irregular Sampling Rate
This paper discusses the optimal H∞ control synthesis via discrete Riccati equations for hard disk drives (HDDs) with an irregular sampling rate. A HDD servo system with an irregular sampling rate, caused by missing position error signal sampling data, is modeled as a linear periodically timevarying (LPTV) system. An optimal H∞ track-following control algorithm for HDD servo systems with irregu...
