Large Artery Stiffness, Microvascular Function, and Cardiovascular Risk.
نویسنده
چکیده
Large artery stiffness is an important mediator of cardiovascular disease. Aortic stiffening causally contributes to isolated systolic hypertension and increases left ventricular pulsatile hydraulic load, which is important in conditions such as heart failure, hypertensive heart disease, and valvular heart disease (particularly aortic stenosis). In addition, there is increasing recognition of the role of arterial stiffness on microvascular disease, which is relevant for the damage of target organs such as the brain and the kidney.

Microvascular Function Contributes to the Relation Between Aortic Stiffness and Cardiovascular Events
Indicators of vascular dysfunction have emerged as surrogate markers for cardiovascular disease (CVD) progression and disease event prediction. Brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) evaluates conduit artery endothelial function and has been shown to predict incident CVD, particularly in individuals who are at high risk. Recently, the hyperemic response to ischemia has emerged as a key no...
متن کاملCross-Sectional Relations of Peripheral Microvascular Function, Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors, and Aortic Stiffness
Background—Aortic stiffness and small-artery structure and function share various risk factors; however, relations between these 2 measures of vascular function are complex and incompletely understood. Methods and Results—We examined hyperemic forearm blood flow, an indicator of microvascular structure and function, and aortic stiffness in 2045 participants (1107 women, mean age 61 9 years) in ...

متن کاملRetinal Microvascular Response to Short-Term Exposure to Particulate Matters As an Indicator of Cardiovascular Effects in Work Environments
Introduction: According to the literature, Central Retinal Arteriolar Equivalent (CRAE), Central Retinal Venular Equivalent (CRVE), and Artemio Venule Ratio (AVR) are three important markers in determining the changes of retinal artery. These markers are employed as an indicator of cardiovascular effects in workers. This study aimed to evaluate the changes in retinal micro vascular responses in...
متن کاملEffects of central arterial aging on the structure and function of the peripheral vasculature: implications for end-organ damage.
Over the past decade, numerous studies have shown that increased aortic stiffness is associated with major cardiovascular disease end points, including heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease. Cardiac abnormalities and enhanced atherogenesis in the setting of increased pulsatile load on heart and arteries have been well described. However, recent studies have shown a further association betwe...
