A novel sparsity and clustering regularization

چکیده
We propose a novel SPARsity and Clustering (SPARC) regularizer, which is a modified version of the previous octagonal shrinkage and clustering algorithm for regression (OSCAR), where, the proposed regularizer consists of a K-sparse constraint and a pair-wise l∞ norm restricted on the K largest components in magnitude. The proposed regularizer is able to separably enforce K-sparsity and encourage the non-zeros to be equal in magnitude. Moreover, it can accurately group the features without shrinking their magnitude. In fact, SPARC is closely related to OSCAR, so that the proximity operator of the former can be efficiently computed based on that of the latter, allowing using proximal splitting algorithms to solve problems with SPARC regularization. Experiments on synthetic data and with benchmark breast cancer data show that SPARC is a competitive group-sparsity inducing regularizer for regression and classification.

A NOVEL FUZZY-BASED SIMILARITY MEASURE FOR COLLABORATIVE FILTERING TO ALLEVIATE THE SPARSITY PROBLEM
Memory-based collaborative filtering is the most popular approach to build recommender systems. Despite its success in many applications, it still suffers from several major limitations, including data sparsity. Sparse data affect the quality of the user similarity measurement and consequently the quality of the recommender system. In this paper, we propose a novel user similarity measure based...
متن کامل3D Inversion of Magnetic Data through Wavelet based Regularization Method
This study deals with the 3D recovering of magnetic susceptibility model by incorporating the sparsity-based constraints in the inversion algorithm. For this purpose, the area under prospect was divided into a large number of rectangular prisms in a mesh with unknown susceptibilities. Tikhonov cost functions with two sparsity functions were used to recover the smooth parts as well as the sharp ...
متن کاملGroup Sparsity in Nonnegative Matrix Factorization
A recent challenge in data analysis for science and engineering is that data are often represented in a structured way. In particular, many data mining tasks have to deal with group-structured prior information, where features or data items are organized into groups. In this paper, we develop group sparsity regularization methods for nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF). NMF is an effective d...

First, the known network structure and historical data are leveraged to design a dictionary for representing the network process. The novel approach draws from semi-supervised learning to enable learning the dictionary with only partial network observations. Once the dictionary is learned, network-wide prediction becomes possible via a regularized least-squares estimate which exploits the parsi...
متن کامل`2,1 Norm and Hessian Regularized Non-Negative Matrix Factorization with Discriminability for Data Representation
Matrix factorization based methods have widely been used in data representation. Among them, Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is a promising technique owing to its psychological and physiological interpretation of spontaneously occurring data. On one hand, although traditional Laplacian regularization can enhance the performance of NMF, it still suffers from the problem of its weak extra...
