چکیده
Background: To determine mean prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time in patients of end stage renal disease having normal baseline coagulation parameters after hemodialysis. Methods: In this cross sectional study 84 patients ,16-70 years of age, with end stage renal disease were selected. Prothrombin Time (PT) and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) were performed pre and post dialysis on venous blood samples of these patients. Results: Mean predialysis PT and APTT 13.33± 0.96 and 32.45± 1.87 seconds respectively A significant increase in the haemostatic parameters post dialysis was observed with mean PT and APTT 15.64±3.18 and 46.54±24.68 seconds respectively with a p-value of <0.001 for both parameters. Conclusion: Haemostatic parameters i.e prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time are prolonged after haemodialysis in patients with end stage renal disease.

Hemodialysis without Anticoagulation for a Patient with Chronic Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation
We report a 68-year-old Japanese man with end-stage renal failure requiring hemodialysis and chronic disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) related to thrombosis in an aortic aneurysm. He had undergone graft replacement for the dissection of the ascending and descending thoracic aorta in 1990 and 2002, respectively. Computed tomography disclosed an aneurysm with thrombosis in the residual...

Introduction. Dabigatran is an oral direct thrombin inhibitor which has been approved for prophylaxis of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. The use of dabigatran etexilate increased rapidly due to many benefits. However, questions have been raised constantly regarding the safety of dabigatran etexilate. Case. A 58-year-old Caucasian male with a history of recurrent paroxysmal atrial f...
متن کاملEvaluation of Antiphospholipid Antibodies and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time in Women with Adverse Outcome of Pregnancy
Adverse outcome of pregnancy is a potentially dangerous complication of conception and affects 15-20% of pregnancies. According to recent studies increased level of blood antiphospholipids antibodies, if accompanied by predisposing factors, can be an adverse event in human pregnancy. The aim of the present study was to compare the maternal serum levels of anticardiolipin and antiphosphatidyl se...
متن کاملPlasma hypercoagulability in haemodialysis patients: impact of dialysis and anticoagulation.
BACKGROUND Thrombotic complications are common in patients with endstage renal disease and contribute substantially to the morbidity and mortality in this population. The aim of the present study was to: i) determine the prevalence and the extent of hypercoagulability in patients undergoing dialysis treatment by measuring parameters that directly reflect thrombin concentrations; ii) assess chan...
متن کاملHaemodialysis before emergency surgery in a patient treated with dabigatran.
Novel oral anticoagulants (NOAs) which directly inhibit thrombin (dabigatran) or factor Xa (rivaroxaban and apixaban) have recently been developed. We report the first case of perioperative management of a patient treated with dabigatran requiring haemodialysis before emergency surgery. A 62-yr-old woman visited the emergency department for a left bi-malleolar ankle fracture; she had a past med...
