Articulation Rate Variation in South Swedish Phrases
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, a study on articulation rate variation within the prosodic phrase is presented. The dialect under investigation is south Swedish. South Swedish shares many prosodic properties with Danish, a language claimed to lack phrasefinal lengthening. The results of the present study nevertheless indicate that the articulation rate in south Swedish phrases is significantly lower in phrase-final words than in preceding words, and that the reduction in articulation rate between successive words in the prosodic phrase is not restricted to the final part of the phrase.

Prosodic phrasing and articulation rate variation
In this paper, results from two studies on articulation rate variation and prosodic phrasing are presented. Production data are presented that suggest a progressive articulation rate reduction over the course of the prosodic phrase in southern Swedish, and results from a perception experiment reveal the importance of articulation rate reduction for perceived boundary strength.

متن کاملThe grammar of approximating number pairs.
In the present article, we studied approximating pairs of numbers (a, b) that were used to estimate quantity in a single phrase ("two, three years ago"). Pollmann and Jansen (1996) found that only a few of the many possible pairs are actually used, suggesting an interaction between the ways in which people estimate quantity and their use of quantitative phrases in colloquial speech. They propos...
