Survey of Golden Jackals (canis Aureus L.) in Northern Dalmatia, Croatia: Preliminary Results
نویسنده
چکیده
Preliminary results from the survey of golden jackals (Canis aureus) in Northern Dalmatia are presented. We used broadcasted jackal howls and monitored the response to determine the presence of jackal territorial groups. 19 jackal territorial groups were recorded in the NW part of Ravni kotari and 2 on Vir Island. The presence of territorial jackals on Pag Island could not be confirmed. For Ravni kotari the minimum estimated average territory density was 0.61–0.75 groups / 10 km2. However, there was relatively high variation of local densities in different parts of the study area, with the highest numbers in the vicinity of Zadar. For Vir Island the minimum estimated territory density was 1.15 groups / 10 km2. These values are relatively low compared to the results from a similar survey made in Greece.

Prevalence of parasitic infections in the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) and golden Jackal (Canis aureus) in Iran
Red foxes and golden jackals are the two most abundant wild carnivores of Iran which have the ability to adopt a variety of habitats and human proximity. Despite this, very few investigations on their helminth and none on their external parasites infections have been carried out in Iran. Between 2003 and 2004, a total of 79 jackals and 37 foxes were collected from 3 different climatic zones of ...
متن کاملGolden Jackal (Canis aureus L.) in Bulgaria: What is Going on?
In order to reveal the well-defined specificity of the number development of golden jackal (Canis aureus L.) in Bulgaria, its population dynamics was tracked using the available data from the official results of spring game counts, carried out by the Executive Agency for Forests throughout the country, during the period of 1960-2011. It seems that the largest jackal population (39 343 animals i...
متن کاملFirst evidence of hybridization between golden jackal (Canis aureus) and domestic dog (Canis familiaris) as revealed by genetic markers
Interspecific hybridization is relatively frequent in nature and numerous cases of hybridization between wild canids and domestic dogs have been recorded. However, hybrids between golden jackals (Canis aureus) and other canids have not been described before. In this study, we combined the use of biparental (15 autosomal microsatellites and three major histocompatibility complex (MHC) loci) and ...

The study was conducted in the area of the Sarnena Sredna Gora Mountain and the Thracian Plain in period 1996-2014. On a total of 262 golden jackals (Canis aureus L., 1758) (119 males and 143 females) thirteen somatometric parameters were measured. The comparison of the linear body parameters and the weights between males and females showed apparent sexual dimorphism in the jackals with a high ...
متن کاملPhylogeography of the Golden Jackal (Canis aureus) in India
The golden jackal (Canis aureus) is one of the most common and widely distributed carnivores in India but phylogeographic studies on the species have been limited across its range. Recent studies have observed absence of mitochondrial (mt) DNA diversity in European populations while some North African populations of golden jackal were found to carry gray wolf (Canis lupus lupaster) mtDNA lineag...
