چکیده

Werner, Rothmund-Thompson, and Bloom syndromes all present with characteristic cutaneous findings during childhood and a predisposition for highgrade osteosarcoma, often at unusual locations, such as the patella. Although each of these syndromes maps to a unique genetic locus, the gene products share significant sequence homology. The latter finding is intriguing given the clinical similarities between the syndromes. Osteosarcoma is typically a diagnosis of childhood among the congenital syndromes. In contrast, chondrosarcoma presenting as part of an inherited syndrome does so late in adult life and is discussed in the context of specific precursor lesions below.

Tissue eosinophils as a histopathological marker in oral premalignant and malignant lesions: a histochemical study

Introduction: Although recent studies show the association of eosinophils with different tumors including oral malignancies, the role of eosinophils in premalignant conditions of the oral cavity is not known precisely. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the number of eosinophils in premalignant and malignant conditions of the oral cavity and its role in progression to malignancy. Materia...

Molecular pathogenesis of multiple myeloma and its premalignant precursor.

Multiple myeloma is a monoclonal tumor of plasma cells, and its development is preceded by a premalignant tumor with which it shares genetic abnormalities, including universal dysregulation of the cyclin D/retinoblastoma (cyclin D/RB) pathway. A complex interaction with the BM microenvironment, characterized by activation of osteoclasts and suppression of osteoblasts, leads to lytic bone diseas...

Pancreatic cyst aspirate CEA levels: two's the charm.

CASE REPORT We report two cases of incidentally found pancreatic cysts where initial EUS-FNA cyst aspirates yielded thin fluid with very low CEA levels. Repeat aspirations one year later revealed ...

Transplantation of a myelodysplastic syndrome by a long-term repopulating hematopoietic cell.

The myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) comprise a group of premalignant hematologic disorders characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis, dysplasia, and transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Although it is well established that many malignancies can be transplanted, there is little evidence to demonstrate that a premalignant disease entity, such as MDS or colonic polyps, can be transplan...
