چکیده

Ayrshire (5149) and Jersey (10,525) bulls born in Canada and the US between 1950 and 1985 were ranked for genetic merit for milk and fat yields. Ranking methods included two joint evaluations (US and Canadian) using lactation records from both countries, a linear model combination of evaluations from each country’s national evaluations, combined US national and converted Canadian evaluations, and combined Canadian national and converted US evaluations. Correlations of linear model combined evaluations for milk yield with joint evaluations were .96 for Ayrshires and .98 for Jerseys for US joint evaluations and .89 and .84 for Canadian joint evaluations. Correlations of combined national and converted evaluations with joint evaluations ranged from .88 to .94 for Ayrshires and from .83 to .98 for Jerseys. Variation and correlations between joint and linear model combined evaluations were consistent across birth Received January 27, 1992. Accepted April 30, 1992. Genetic Relationships and Linear Model Comparisons Between United States and Canadian Ayrshire and Jersey Bull Populations

The ties and relationships within the Ayrshire and Jersey bull populations from the United States and Canada were investigated. Twenty-two percent of genes in the United States Ayrshire bull population were of Canadian origin, whereas 22% of genes in the Canadian Jersey bull population were of United States origin. Average genetic relationships among bulls between countries were comparable with...

Progeny testing and selection intensity for Holstein bulls in different countries.

International Bull Evaluation Service (Interbull) Holstein evaluations from February 1995 through February 2003 were used to determine characteristics of progeny testing for Holstein bulls in Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the United States. The decision to graduate a bull from progeny test (PT) was assumed to have been made based o...

Retrospective analysis of the accuracy of conversion equations and multiple-trait, across-country evaluations of Holstein bulls used internationally.

In 1995, the multiple-trait across country genetic evaluation procedure replaced regression-based conversion equations as the preferred method for international genetic comparisons of dairy bulls. In the present study, February 1999 estimated breeding values of 632 foreign Holstein bulls that were used in Canada, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, and the US were compared with January 199...

Application of contemporary methods for the use of international data in national genetic evaluations.

Increased international trade of genetic material from dairy cattle requires genetic evaluations across countries. Methods are discussed for comparing genetic evaluations of bulls computed in different countries. A system that combines information from several countries and produces routine international evaluations of dairy bulls is described, and possible ways of utilizing such international ...
