Blurry as tremor.

چکیده

The late Renaissance Dutch painter Frans Hals (1582–1666) was a master of revealing his subjects’ peculiarities. However, in the Regentesses (figure), he shows a neurologic condition—the blurred shoulder margin of the woman in the middle suggests trembling in a standing figure. Is it possible that Hals, who once amazed Van Gogh by his 27 “blacks,” borrowed a technique from double exposure photography centuries in advance to depict a fairly common (e.g., parkinsonian or essential) tremor? Or the alternative: he painted what he saw—very fast trembling, producing illusion of double shoulders— perhaps the earliest depiction of orthostatic tremor.

Coarse Tremor as the Only Sign of Perinatal Hemorrhagic Stroke: A Case Report

Background: Tremor which is the most common abnormal movement in the neonatal period might be a benign condition or the result of pathologic events and is divided into two subtypes, namely fine tremor and coarse tremor. Fine tremor is usually benign and results from some metabolic disturbance, such as hypoglycemia. On the other hand, coarse tremor is an indicator of brain insult and should be r...

Effect of Crocus sativus extracts and its active constituent safranal on the harmaline-induced tremor in mice

Objective(s): Due to unsatisfactory response or intolerable side effects of current drugs, treatment of essential tremor remains inadequate. Thus, we aimed to investigate the protective and therapeutic effects of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Crocus sativus (saffron), and its active consistent, safranal, on the harmaline-induced tremor in mice. Materials and Methods: To induce tremor, harma...

Topiramate-associated acute, bilateral, angle-closure glaucoma: case report.

This paper describes a topiramate induced acute bilateral angle-closure glaucoma. This rare adverse effect is an idiosyncratic reaction characterized by uveal effusion and lens forward displacement, leading to increased intraocular pressure and vision loss. We describe a 55 year-old white woman with migraine, spasmodic torticollis and essential tremor, who developed bilateral acute angle-closur...

Optimal design of a vibration absorber for tremor control of arm in Parkinson's disease

Because the underlying physiology of pathological tremor in a Parkinson's patient is not well understood, the existing physical and drug therapies have not been successful in tremor treatment. Different mathematical modeling of such vibration has been introduced to investigate the problem and reduce the existing vibration. Most of the models have represented the induced vibration as a sinusoida...

Riluzole Ameliorates Harmaline-Induced Tremor in Rat

Introduction: Excessive olivo-cerebellar burst-firing occurs during harmaline-induced tremor. We hypothesized that antiglutamatergic agents would suppress harmaline tremor. From this point of view, the aim of current study was to investigate the effects of riluzole on harmaline-induced tremor in rat. Material and Methods: Four groups of Wistar rats weighing 80–100 g were injected with harmaline...
