چکیده

The amplitude and phase of the cosmic ray anisotropy are well established experimentally between 10 eV and 10 eV. The study of their evolution into the energy region 10 − 10 eV can provide a significant tool for the understanding of the steepening (“knee”) of the primary spectrum. In this letter we extend the EAS-TOP measurement performed at E0 ≈ 10 14 eV, to higher energies by using the full data set (8 years of data taking). Results derived at about 10 and 4 · 10 eV are compared and discussed. Hints of increasing amplitude and change of phase above 10 eV are reported. The significance of the observation for the understanding of cosmic ray propagation is discussed. Subject headings: Cosmic rays, diffusion

The years 1998 to 2008 were very exciting years for cosmology. It was a pleasure to accept this invitation to describe my contributions to the development of our knowledge and understanding of the universe over the course of the past decade. Here, I begin by describing some of my work on radio galaxies as a modified standard yardstick and go on to describe modelindependent studies of the accele...

During the past ten years, the predictions of the cannonball (CB) model of gamma ray bursts (GRBs) were repeatedly confronted with the mounting data from spaceand ground-based observations of GRBs and their afterglows (AGs). The two underlying radiation mechanisms of the model, inverse Compton scattering (ICS) and synchrotron radiation (SR), provided an accurate description of the prompt and af...

The origin of galactic cosmic rays is one of the most interesting unsolved problems in astroparticle physics. Experimentally, the problem is attacked by a multi-disciplinary effort, namely by direct measurements of cosmic rays above the atmosphere, by air shower observations, and by the detection of TeV γ rays. Recent experimental results are presented and their implications on the contemporary...

Based on combined 3-year data, the IceCube collaboration has reported recently the discovery of a diffuse background of high energy (HE) astrophysical neutrinos with energy above 60 TeV that extends at least up to 3 PeV, in excess (5.7σ significance level) of that produced by cosmic ray (CR) interactions in the atmosphere. The neutrino events did not point back to any identified sources and are...
