چکیده

Traffic monitoring in urban areas is a complex issue and recent Remote Sensing technologies can play an important role in planning and monitoring the urban environment. In this studya semi-automatic object-oriented workflow was designedto detect moving vehicles and their speed from single pass WorldView-2 multispectral data. The time lag in data recording between each spectral band causes a small image displacement of moving objects andthis discrepancy is used to detect moving vehicles, their speed and direction of travel. The method proposed was applied to a very complex study area in the historical core of city of Multan, in the Pakistanisouthern province of Punjab, where very small and extremely dense built-up old style houses are mixed together with narrow roads and bazaar streets.First results show interesting applications of this new technology, with achieved accuracies of about 67% evaluated comparing automatic detection vs. manual interpretation.

Automatic Moving Vehicle’s Information Extraction from One-pass Worldview-2 Satellite Imagery

There are several applications of vehicle information (position, speed, and direction). WorldView-2 satellite has three sensors: one Pan and two MS (MS-1: BGRN1, Pan, and MS-2:CYREN2). Because of a slight time gap in acquiring images from these sensors, the WorldView-2 images capture three different positions of the moving vehicles. This paper proposes a new technique to extract the vehicle inf...

Moving Vehicle Information Extraction from Single-Pass WorldView-2 Imagery Based on ERGAS-SNS Analysis

Due to the fact that WorldView-2 (WV2) has a small time lag while acquiring images from panchromatic (PAN) and two multispectral (MS1 and MS2) sensors, a moving vehicle is located at different positions in three image bands. Consequently, such displacement can be utilized to identify moving vehicles, and vehicle information, such as speed and direction can be estimated. In this paper, we focus ...

Roof Material Detection Based on Object-Based Approach Using WorldView-2 Satellite Imagery

One of the most important tasks in urban remote sensing is the detection of impervious surfaces (IS), such as roofs and roads. However, detection of IS in heterogeneous areas still remains one of the most challenging tasks. In this study, detection of concrete roof using an object-based approach was proposed. A new rule-based classification was developed to detect concrete roof tile. This propo...

Small Moving Vehicle Detection in a Satellite Video of an Urban Area

Vehicle surveillance of a wide area allows us to learn much about the daily activities and traffic information. With the rapid development of remote sensing, satellite video has become an important data source for vehicle detection, which provides a broader field of surveillance. The achieved work generally focuses on aerial video with moderately-sized objects based on feature extraction. Howev...

Geometric Correction and Automatic Dem Extraction of Worldview Stereo Data

The successful operation of the WorldView-1and 2 satellites have enabled advanced high-accuracy mapping using high-resolution satellite images, with and without the use of ground control points (GCPs). The stereo capability of the WorldView sensor also provides the opportunity to extract high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs). In this paper we will examine the following areas: (1) Each...
