چکیده

PURPOSE To determine the proper time frame in which to assess retinal attachment status and to evaluate the superior retinal attachment status by performing B-scan ultrasonography in different positions on patients who have undergone pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamoponade. METHODS In this prospective study, 23 patients (23 eyes) who had undergone pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamponade were investigated between June 2005 and February 2006. SF(6) (18%) was injected into the vitreous cavity of 15 eyes, and C(3)F(8) (14%) was injected into the vitreous cavity of 8 eyes. At postoperative day 1, day 3, week 1, week 2, and week 4, B-scan ultrasonography was performed in the supine, sitting, prone, right decubitus, and left decubitus positions. RESULTS The proper time to evaluate the retinal attachment status was three days post-operatively in 10 eyes (66.7%) with SF(6) (18%) injections and two weeks post-operatively in six eyes (75%) that had C(3)F(8) (14%) injections. The superior retinal attachment status can be evaluated from the summation of B-scan ultrasonography results performed in the right decubitus and left ducubitus positions. CONCLUSIONS The proper time to evaluate the retinal attachment status was related to the degree of the gas absorption when performing B-scan ultrasonography after pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamponade. To evaluate the entire retina, it is useful to perform B-scan ultrasonograhy in the prone, right decubitus and left decubitus positions.

BACKGROUND Suprachoroidal gas injection has been reported as a complication of pneumatic retinopexy, and the usefulness of B-scan ultrasonography has been reported. A case of suprachoroidal gas injection as a complication of pars plana vitrectomy confirmed by computed tomography (CT) is presented here. METHODS A 64-year-old woman developed a vitreous hemorrhage due to a retinal tear secondary...

Double-Vitrectomy for Optic Disc Pit Maculopathy

BACKGROUND The origin of the fluid and precise pathophysiology of optic pit maculopathy remain unclear. It has been suggested that submacular fluid originates either from vitreous or cerebrospinal fluid. We report a case of optic pit maculopathy which was unsuccessfully treated with vitrectomy and internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, and subsequently resolved with revision of vitrectomy an...

High-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy of the anterior segment morphometry before and immediately after pars plana vitrectomy.

PURPOSE To characterize short-term changes induced by pars plana vitrectomy on anterior segment depth and lens thickness by means of high-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy. METHODS We undertook a prospective case series study on consecutive patients referred for pars plana vitrectomy as the sole procedure in our institution between 2005 and 2007. Twenty-eight eyes of 28 patients undergoing p...

Immediate postoperative use of a topical agent to prevent intraocular pressure elevation after pars plana vitrectomy with gas tamponade.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether a single topical aqueous suppressant applied immediately after pars plana vitrectomy with long-acting gas tamponade prevents intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation. METHODS Fifty patients who met the inclusion criteria and underwent pars plana vitrectomy with long-acting gas tamponade were randomized to receive a combination of timolol maleate and dorzolamide hydr...
