I would also like to thank Paul Porter from Sumo Digital for allowing me to demonstrate the original version of my facial morphing tool and giving me excellent feedback which was used to define the requirements for the new version as described in this report. I would also like to thank Andrew Beatty from Singular Inversions for providing assistance in creating the models I required as part of this project. IV Abstract Graphical special effects are beginning to play a bigger role in computer games with the increasing performance of today's hardware. One such special effect is image metamorphosis or 'morphing' for short. Morphing is commonly referred to as the animated transformation of one digital image to another. It is a powerful tool and has widespread use for achieving visual special effects in the entertainment industry. This report presents a new approach to achieving real-time facial morphing animations and provides an evaluation of the most efficient way of implementing this approach. Firstly, current approaches to mesh morphing are evaluated to see if they would be suitable for this task. Then a new approach is proposed and implemented based on consultations with industry professionals and the result of evaluating current approaches. This new approach is then evaluated to find the most efficient implementation and to find if it would indeed be useable in the games industry.
