چکیده

We present the design of a flash memory for passive RFID transponders, implemented in a standard – single poly 0.35 μm CMOS process. The memory has 128 bits, sufficient for example to contain the EPC code for Class 0 tags, and is able to perform a complete read operation of all 128 bits with an access time of about 10 ms and a power consumption of only 160 nW. In the erase/program mode Fowler-Nordheim tunneling is used, and all 128 bits can be written in 0.8 s with a power consumption of about 3 μW. Such power causes an acceptable reduction of the operating range during a write operation to 1.74 m in the 2.45 GHz ISM band and 4.66 m in the UHF ISM band, for a transmitter EIRP of 500 mW, with respect to the read operating range, where 4 m at 2.45 GHz and 10.5 m at 916 MHz are achieved.

Ultra-low power PSK backscatter modulator for UHF and microwave RFID transponders

An integrated circuit implementation of a PSK backscatter modulator for passive radio frequency identification (RFID) transponders is proposed. Such modulator offers a significant reduction of the power consumption with respect to other schemes already presented in the literature. Furthermore, the topology of the proposed modulator allows us to control its output resistance so that only a negli...

A 900 MHz / 2.45 GHz RF Frontend For Passive RFID Transponders

The RF frontend is one of the key elements in passive transponders, accounting for such diverse operations as RF-DC conversion, voltage regulation, modulation and demodulation of the incident RF wave. In this paper, the design of a high-performance frontend for passive RFID transponders under the international standard ISO/IEC 18000-4/6 is presented. Its physical implementation has been carried...

A CMOS Humidity Sensor for Passive RFID Sensing Applications

This paper presents a low-cost low-power CMOS humidity sensor for passive RFID sensing applications. The humidity sensing element is implemented in standard CMOS technology without any further post-processing, which results in low fabrication costs. The interface of this humidity sensor employs a PLL-based architecture transferring sensor signal processing from the voltage domain to the frequen...
