Real-time Nonlinear Individual Cylinder Air Fuel Ratio Observer on a Diesel Engine Test Bench
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose an estimator of the individual cylinder air fuel ratios in a turbocharged Diesel Engine using as only sensor the single air fuel ratio sensor placed downstream the turbine. The observer consists of a nonlinear filter designed on a physics-based time-varying model for the engine dynamics. Convergence is proven, using a Lyapounov function. Performance is studied through simulations and test bench experiments on a 4 cylinder engine.Copyright c 2005 IFAC.

Observer Design for Torque Balancing on a DI Engine
Torque balancing for diesel engines is important to eliminate generated vibrations and to correct injected quantity disparities between cylinders. The vibration phenomenon is important at low engine speed and at idling. To estimate torque production from each cylinders, the instantaneous engine speed from the crankshaft is used. Currently, an engine speed measurement every 45° crank angle is su...
متن کاملSix Degrees Crankshaft Individual Air Fuel Ratio Estimation of Diesel Engines for Cylinder Balancing Purpose
In the context of modern engine control, one important variable is the individual Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) which is a good representation of the produced torque. It results from various inputs such as injected quantities, boost pressure, and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate. Further, for forthcoming HCCI engines and regeneration filters (Particulate filters, DeNOx), even slight AFR unbalanc...
متن کاملEmission Reduction Strategies for Small Single Cylinder Diesel Engine Using Valve Timing and Swirl Ratio
Small diesel engines are widely used for commercial vehicle and passenger car applications due to their higher torque requirements, fuel economy, and better thermal efficiency. These engines are exposed to different operating and environmental conditions and hence emissions from these engines are erratic. Strategies are required to enhance performance and reduce engine-out emissions considering...
متن کاملEstimation and feedback control of air-fuel ratio for gasoline engines
In 4-stroke internal combustion engines, air-fuel ratio control is a challenging task due to the rapid changes of engine throttle, especially during transient operation. To improve the transient performance, managing the cycle-to-cycle transient behavior of the mass of the air, the fuel and the burnt gas is a key issue due to the imbalance of cyclic combustion process. This paper address the mo...

Nitrogen oxides (NOx) contribute to a wide range of environmental effects including the formation of acid rain and destroy ozone layer. In-cylinder high temperature flame and high oxygen concentration are the parameters which affect the NOx emissions. The EGR system is a very effective way for reducing NOx emission from a diesel engine (via reduction of these parameters), particularly at the...
