Irrigation in Cataract Extraction

چکیده
This occupies only the introductory chapter, 17 pages of the book; the rest of the book, about 100 pages, describes in a detailed way the cataract operation done by him, the instruments employed and their sterilisation, the preparation of the patient, the actual steps of the operation, and in this, the all-important question of the section and how to make it are well dealt with. The author advocates capsulotomy with the knife, and a primary iridectomy, e.g., 'before the expulsion of the lens, and a very complete irrigation, but recognises the advantage and occasional necessity of an iridectomy after the lens is out. Post-operative treatment, and the accidents of the operation, are dealt with briefly, but in a useful way. This book representing the routine of a very experienced operator will be found most useful

Iridectomy was performed in all but one of the first 65 cases, and in all but a very few of the last 65 cases. In the interval cases it was omitted when possible. The arguments for and against are familiar, but, in addition to the greater safety it affords, an iridectomy certainly facilitates efficient irrigation, and I now frequently do it secondarily, after the extraction of the lens, if a pr...

The aim of this study was to report a new cause of cataract, namely snake bite induced cataract in a dog. A 3-year-old male mongrel dog was referred to our clinic for the assessment of cataract in both eyes. The dog was bitten by a snake nearly 4 months ago. A 40 dioptre acrylic lens with 13 mm haptics was implanted into the lens capsule. In the left eye, posterior synechia was detected in the ...

BACKGROUND The normal conjunctival flora is one of the main sources of intraocular contamination during cataract surgery. The theory that the positive anterior chamber (AC) pressure during phacoemulsification (phaco), and the smaller wound utilised, might reduce the rate of contamination was studied. METHODS The peroperative AC aspirates of 210 consecutive patients undergoing cataract surgery...
