چکیده

The gut microbiota play critical roles in intestinal function, but the mechanisms involved remain obscure. Recent studies suggest that commensal bacteria promote immune homeostasis via the innate immune receptor Nod1.

Immunology: You Remind Me of a Microbe I Know

The majority of bacteria found within the gut are commensals, although it is unclear whether these organisms can elicit systemic immunity. New research indicates that gut-microbiota-specific serum antibodies targeting an epitope conserved among Gram-negative bacteria can protect the host from systemic pathogenic infection.

Postnatal Hematopoiesis and Gut Microbiota in NOD Mice Deviate from C57BL/6 Mice

Neonatal studies in different mouse strains reveal that early life colonization affects the development of adaptive immunity in mice. The nonobese diabetic (NOD) mouse spontaneously develops autoimmune diabetes, but neonatal studies of NOD mice are lacking. We hypothesized that NOD mice deviate from another much used mouse strain, C57BL/6, with respect to postnatal microbiota and/or hematopoies...

Interplay between the gut microbiota and epithelial innate signaling in colitis-associated colon carcinogenesis

Intestinal microbiota is involved in the maintenance of gut homeostasis as well as the regulation of colitisassociated colorectal tumorigenesis. The aberrant host immune signaling and the presence of opportunistic commensals with potential pathogenic characteristics (pathobionts) have been suggested to be incorporated into the genetic paradigm of colon carcinogenesis. The reciprocal relationshi...

Compartmentalized control of skin immunity by resident commensals.

Intestinal commensal bacteria induce protective and regulatory responses that maintain host-microbial mutualism. However, the contribution of tissue-resident commensals to immunity and inflammation at other barrier sites has not been addressed. We found that in mice, the skin microbiota have an autonomous role in controlling the local inflammatory milieu and tuning resident T lymphocyte functio...

Nod-Like Receptors: Cytosolic Watchdogs for Immunity against Pathogens

In mammals, tissue-specific sets of pattern-recognition molecules, including Nod-like receptors (NLR), enable concomitant and sequential detection of microbial-associated molecular patterns from both the extracellular and intracellular microenvironment. Repressing and de-repressing the cytosolic surveillance machinery contributes to vital immune homeostasis and protective responses within speci...
