Toward Learning Interactive Behavior

چکیده
This document is divided into two parts. The first part details the authors opinion on the three questions posed by the ICRA NEWHRI 2008 workshop. The second part represents a brief introduction to the research conducted by the author toward realization of autonomous robots that can learn interactive behavior through real world interactions with humans. I. CHARACTERIZING HRI A. What characteristics unify and should be common to all areas of HRI research? HRI research is by definitions an interdisciplinary research area. It is about humans as much as it is about robots, but more importantly it is the interaction between these two different kinds of creatures that gives rise to the questions and challenges addressed by HRI. So what is common to all areas of research in HRI is the concept of interaction as a dynamical relation between humans and robots. This unifying concept is there in every kind of research in this domain including the analysis, design and implementation techniques that can produce a more effective interaction in the domains of interest. HRI areas of research share more than just a common concept, they share a strong real-world orientation and human centered methodology. While most subfields of robotics are real world oriented, this is even more important in HRI because of the existence of the complex intentional and sometimes unpredictable human in the loop. HRI is by definition a human centered endeavor because the human is not only the final consumer of the solution HRI is producing but more importantly he/she is a part of challenges this field is addressing. متن کاملNursing students’ attitude about factors influencing clinical learning in Medical University of Guilan
Introduction: Education is a regular process in order to aid individuals for acquiring ‎knowledge and new skills. Education is an active interaction between educator and learner. ‎Learning is a stable change process in individual’s potential behavior. Therefore, we can only ‎say that the students’ learning is satisfactory when learning causes proper behavioral changes &l...
متن کاملAn Explanation of the Teacher’s Personal Constructs: The Effects of the English Language Instructors’ Majors on their Orientations toward Teaching Reading Comprehension
This study seeks to examine how teachers’ educational background (those who have educated in TEFL in comparison to those who have educated in Literature) may influence their beliefs and attitudes on language learning, teaching and the teaching methods they apply in their classes. On a general basis, depending on teachers’ opinion, learning process might be seen as behavioristic, inductive, inte...
متن کاملPublic Schools and Private Language Institutes: Any Differences in Students’ L2 Motivational Self System?
To enrich our understanding of the attitudinal/motivational basis of foreign language learning at junior high school level, this study investigated the students’ status of L2 motivation, the relationship between motivational factors, and the possibility of predicting their motivated learning behavior in light of Dörnyei’s (2005, 2009) theory of L2 Motivational Self System. To this end, 1462 jun...
متن کاملIntegrating Interactive Whiteboards in EFL Learners' Learning and Retention of Non-congruent Collocations
Drawing on the assumptions of socio-cognitive linguistics, focusing on the effective role of interaction in terms of reducing the cognitive burden in the process of learning, this quasi-experimental study aimed at investigating the effect of the Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) usage on the learning and retention of non-congruent collocations among 60 homogenized Iranian EFL learners, aged 18 to 24...
متن کاملInteractive Q-Learning with Ordinal Rewards and Unreliable Tutor
Conventional reinforcement learning (RL) requires the specification of a numeric reward function, which is often a difficult task. In this paper, we extend the Q-learning approach toward the handling of ordinal rewards. The method we propose is interactive in the sense of allowing the agent to query a tutor for comparing sequences of ordinal rewards. More specifically, this method can be seen a...
