Spectral reflectance estimation from one RGB image using self-interreflections in a concave object

چکیده
Light interreflections occurring in a concave object generate a color gradient which is characteristic of the object’s spectral reflectance. In this paper, we use this property in order to estimate the spectral reflectance of matte, uniformly colored, V-shaped surfaces from a single RGB image taken under directional lighting. First, simulations show that using one image of the concave object is equivalent to, and can even outperform, the state of the art approaches based on three images taken under three lightings with different colors. Experiments on real images of folded papers were performed under unmeasured direct sunlight. The results show that our interreflection-based approach outperforms existing approaches even when the latter are improved by a calibration step. The mathematical solution for the interreflection equation and the effect of surface parameters on the performance of the method are also discussed in this paper. © 2018

متن کاملReflectance Estimation of Outdoor Diffuse Object with the Presence of Interreflection
It is necessary to acquire the accurate reflectance properties of an object, if we want to use this object as a model for computer vision and graphics applications. However, wrong reflectance parameters are estimated, when interreflection exists. Interreflections are negligible for convex objects, while it is not for concave objects. This paper addresses a method to estimate diffuse reflectance...
متن کاملShape from interreflections - Computer Vision, 1990. Proceedings, Third International Conference on
All shape-from-intensity methods assume that points in a scene are only illuminated by sources of light. Most scenes consist of concave surfaces and/orconcavities that result from multipleobjects in the scene. In such cases, points in the scene reflect light between themselves. In the presence of these interreflections, shape-from-intensity methods produce erroneous (pseudo) estimates of shape ...
متن کامل3D Reconstruction of Interreflection-affected Surface Concavities using Photometric Stereo
Image-based reconstruction of 3D shapes is inherently biased under the occurrence of interreflections, since the observed intensity at surface concavities consists of direct and global illumination components. This issue is commonly not considered in a Photometric Stereo (PS) framework. Under the usual assumption of only direct reflections, this corrupts the normal estimation process in concave...
