In this work we compare the system performance of three multiple access techniques used in mobile radio systems: TDMA, CDMA, and the slotted Aloha packet system. The performance of the three protocols has been evaluated in the presence or absence of both antenna diversity and power control, with focus on the base-to-mobile link. The results obtained show that CDMA and slotted Aloha work much better than TDMA; moreover the performance of slotted Aloha is comparable to CDMA, while exhibiting a virtual insensitivity to propagation conditions.

Cooperative Diversity for the Cellular Uplink: Sharing Strategies and Receiver Design
In this paper, we propose and compare data sharing schemes and practical receiver designs for cooperative diversity in the cellular uplink. Specifically, we present new multi-user decode and forward (DF) protocols and an amplify and forward (AF) protocol, and we compare their performance in asynchronous uplink environments with low-complexity joint linear multipleaccess interference suppression...
متن کاملMacrodiversity power control in hierarchical CDMA cellular systems
Hierarchical code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular systems, consisting of macrocells with underlying microcells, are studied. We seek power control schemes which will allow both hierarchical layers to share the same spectrum. For the reverse link, hierarchical maximal ratio combining (HMRC) is applied where each mobile station (MS) is received and coherently combined by base stations (B...
متن کاملNon-orthogonal Multiple Access with Practical Interference Cancellation for MIMO Systems
The concept of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is presented as a candidate radio access technology for systems beyond the 4th generation (4G) mobile communication systems. NOMA, which is different from the current long term evolution (LTE) radio access schemes, utilizes the power domain for user multiplexing at the transmitter side and adopts a successive interference cancellation (SIC) r...
متن کاملExtension of the Coverage Region of Multiple Access Channels by Using a Relay
From practical and theoretical viewpoints, performance analysis of communication systems by using information-theoretic results is important. In this paper, based on our previous work on Multiple Access Channel (MAC) and Multiple Access Relay Channel (MARC), we analyze the impact of a relay on the fundamental wireless communications concept, i.e., coverage region of MARC, as a basic model for u...
متن کاملLink Reliability in Cooperative Relaying Using Network Coding
Demand for high data rates is increasing rapidly for future wireless systems. This trend is due to the increase in the number of mobile subscribers that need bandwidth hungry multimedia applications anywhere, anytime. Fourth generation cellular systems like IMT-advanced are being developed to meet these requirements. The unreliable nature of the wireless medium is one of the main hinderance in ...
