چکیده

A combined University / Industry team has developed a prototype system for handling protein crystals aboard the space station. This system uses a miniature direct drive robot, CCD television cameras, and a client-server computing system using internet protocols to support the capture of protein crystals from aqueous growth solutions. The system was demonstrated between Huntsville AL. and Seattle WA. An operator in Huntsville controlled the mini robot by invoking pre-defined relative and absolute macro files. The operators observed results using video images sent through the internet link using Cu-SeeMe video con-ferencing software. In 3 of 4 trials, the operators successfully captured 0.5mm simulated protein crystals into a glass capillary. The system is a promising start for the development of a space-station based remote protein crystal analysis facility.

Chapter 1 THE NEW ROBOTIC ERA

With tremendous advances in computer communication technology, computerized robots connected to networks can be efficiently used in the design of intelligent telerobots. Intelligent telerobots allow remote operations by using a control workstation that is connected to a robotic workstation through a computer network. Fast networks allow intensive information exchange between the two workstation...

Control Architecture for Telerobotic Systems

A control architecture is presented for real-time, sensor-based, shared control of remote, multiplemanipulator telerobotic systems. The system allows teleoperation, autonomy, or a combination (shared, telerobotic control). The rate-based system accepts control inputs from a variety of sources (joystick position or velocity, automated path planner position or velocity, machine vision, force/mome...

A Advanced Telerobotic Control System for a Mobile Robot with Multisensor Feedback

This paper presents an advanced telerobotic control system for a mobile robot with multisensor feedback. A telecontrol concept for various degrees of cooperation between a human operator and a mobile robot is described. With multisensor on-board the robot at the remote site can adjust its path while continuously accepting commands from the human operator. Interactive modelling that allows the m...
